I don't like writing bad reviews, but I'm afraid our stay at Mar Y Sol was not the best. First to the positives though. Nice location (right on the beach), but Manzanillo is tiny and not much going on. About 15km from Puerto Viejo, which seems to have a lot more going on. The owners were very friendly and the... More

From the moment we were greeted upon arrival via taxi until our departure, my family and I were amiably embraced as though we were best friends with Samir, the owner and propriater. His exuberance for life and its manifest experiences created an interactive environment akin to a family get together. His wit and charm embrace you in a most welcoming... More

We stayed here one night at this hostel and had a fun night. The owners are great, fun and accommodating and we had a lovely delicious dinner. Centrally located, right opposite the beach so nothing is far. The rooms are being upgraded and painted so we stayed in a room which was freshly painted however had no bathroom door which... More

Easily the best place in Manzanillo for budget travellers! The new ownership (disregard prior comments about a Bryan...) is super friendly and attentive. Really this place is also a great restaurant. I just had spicy red snapper with an excellent rice and veg side. The rooms are simple but as the remodel advances I expect things will improve. However, the... More

I didn't get I stay at this Hostel but my friend did. She loved the stay! This is a great location right across from a Incredible beach. The owner and his daughter are very kind and informative about the area. Also saw some delicious looking food come out of the kitchen! Right across from the hostel is a Massage on... More

It was taken over by new mgmt and since that its the greatest ripoff around... Bad rooms, bad service (especial the arrogant gringa), and tons of lies (why there is: no water, no keys, no cleaning, etc..)

The owner Bryan is welcoming extremely helpful and very informed about the area. Coffee is prepared every morning and he offers bikes and snorkel equipement. There is a lights out and rest period which is enforced by Bryan. He gave me a free upgrade from the upstairs dorm room at $10 a night to a large single room on the... More

We spent several days in Manzanillo and had a wonderful time at Mar Y Sol. The hostel is right on the beach. The rooms are not fancy and the building is older but for the price it was fantastic. Where else can you stay beachfront for $30. Better yet the dorms were only $10. We made great friends with the... More

This wasn't the greatest place we've stayed by far, if I was 18 again then maybe (I'm only 24 now haha). The owners were nice enough but we didn't really feel super welcome and no one told us that they even served food and after seeing the kitchen I don't think we would have done anyway! The room was a... More

Hi all, I am afraid that I had an unpleasant stay here. I fear that the positive reviews are fake ones and that the review from Weltenbummler, mentioning mold in the rooms is truthful. The hostel claims to be the only one in Manzallino (I beleive there could be another, I saw a sign by Maxis restaurant, please check this).... More
