We stayed for two nights in April 2014 - at the tail end of the dry season. My impression from guidebooks and this website was that Portobelo hotels might be a bit sketchy. Well, Octopus Garden was clean, nicely decorated, a good aircon unit, and comfortable. The lady in charge was very pleasant and spoke English. She organized a snorkeling... More

It was very good, the staff was very friendly and attentive. The instructor was pretty good, the area in general very quiet, which was good if you want some peace of mind. The diving tours were awesome.

I stayed two nights in December 2013 in Octopus Garden and I loved it! What is said by others is true - nobody lies - but it is all the eye of the beholder. The setting is great, the staff is wonderful and the diving resort (equipment and instructor) are also great! Although the cook was off to a trip... More

calm nice view to the sea, sunset :-) no beach sorry but a entertainment by the crabs that come to visit you on the terrace. there are some chairs on the terrace for sun bathing and enjoying the sunset. forget the pool, its rather for frogs than for humans. rooms not dirty but would not eat on the floor neither.... I stayed at Octopus Garden for 3 nights. My $55/night room included these amenities: No hot water, filthy furnishings (see the photo of the inside of the bedroom door which apparently had not been cleaned in months? years?), shower walls with long black hairs on them (not mine, I am nearly bald) intermittent WiFi, down for one 18-hour stretch, and... very amateuristic dive resort. very bad kitchen and the rooms are also too expensive. the owner is never there and the sweet people that have run the show work there very hard . the owners also certify divers under other names of diving instuctor. I stayed there for a month working and it happend too me. the diving around that... More

Once upon a time, this was likely a nice place. Unfortunately, time has weathered it and maintenance has not kept up. There are holes in the deck, the AC unit in my room was moldy (cleared out with a industrial fan) and the windows don't open... Why have a room facing the sea without the breeze? The food is mediocre... More

1 diver and 1 non diver. Stayed 2 nights. Its right on the bay and as a non diver waiting around - I didnt really like the look of the shallow rocky water out the front, so I didnt get to swim as much as I would have liked ( I paid to be dropped off on an island for... More

The owner will tell you this is a hotel where divers can relax.... If you're not a diver... forget it! I'm actually an experienced diver.. and had no inclination to dive from here whatsoever! The place is ok....the rooms are just ok... definitely nothing special... and definitely not worth the $50 per night. The food and drinks were overpriced...$2 for... More

After 5 days sailing from Colombia we arrived in Puerto Lindo. After checking trip advisor it seemed the best place to sleep and for some good food was the Hotel Octopus in the nearby town of Porto Belo (15km along the coast, $5 USD in taxi or bloke you ask on the street who has a car!). The rest of... More
