We wanted to visit Hay-on-Wye and chose The Old Vicarage as within reasonable distance; about a 20 minute drive. This solid Victorian house has high-ceilinged rooms, some with en-suite and others with private bathroom. The place is a 'home' foremost, with nick-knacks, books, fruit and biscuits everywhere. This b&b is run by Joyce and Melvyn Powell and it is so welcoming and friendly that it's like staying with relatives. Minimalist it is NOT, and it's full of books, toys, games, and general ornament and decoration, giving a warm and friendly feeling. The Old Vicarage sits in the wonderful Golden Valley, handy for the Hay-On-Wye Festival, Hereford, Ross-On-Wye, but separate enough from them all to be truly rural.
