Walkerbouts is owned by a real character. Once you have stayed here you leave as friends. Although the house is very old it is clean and owns a feel of nostalgia. The chef of this establishment is a wonderful surprise and I can say without a doubt that I had the most amazing pizza ever right here in Rhodes. However... More

We stayed a night in their lovely cosy self-catering cottage but ate in the inn. Owners extremely helpful and courteous. Very good food: best trout we have ever tasted for supper and a delicious cooked breakfast from a talented chef. One word of caution: you can't just roam the mountain tracks and paths here as you might in Scotland, and... More

Forget Hilton, Sheraton or Holiday Inns...this is a pioneer style hotel in the unique and special township of Rhodes. Stepping in is like instantly going back 100 years and is a lovely experience. Rooms are simple, large and comfortable with good bathrooms even if they are a little tired. There is a nice dining/breakfast room and a pleasant louge area.... More

We were surprised by the service and quality of the food. The rooms of this older establishment is clean but the wooden floors tend to be very noisy. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. They prepared us the most scrumptious pizzas ever for lunch after a day out on a sight seeing trip in the nearby passes.

The inn is situated in a wonderful little conservation town with no tar roads and only just got grid electricity recently. The pioneer town has specifically maintained and conserved its original character from a bygone era If you like off... You can't visit the Eastern Cape without going to Walkerbouts in Rhodes! The people are warm and welcoming! They make you feel part of the long lost family that has returned home! The food is simple however very well presented and tasted amazing. You have to stop for a moment and experience what "the centre of the universe" is like... More

Old fashioned hospitality in a town so remote I don't know how they manage to operate so far from civilisation. The 95km drive from Maclear up the Naudesnek pass took two and a half hours and I would visit this town again even if that was all they had to offer. The town itself is frozen in time - so... More

We were served cold pizza in empty beer boxes for which we were charged R330.00. When I spoke to the owner about this the following day I was told not to be stupid, that the boxes came "straight from the factory". Really? You have to be kidding me! Beer boxes that were filled with dirty beer cans in a truck... More

I arrived at Walkerbouts having hurt my leg up in the mountains above Rhodes and immediately got the hospitality, warmth and care that this guesthouse is well known for. Crutches were supplied by David, my leg professionally attended to by Penny & Irini kindly took me to the clinic. The attention was most appreciated. The rooms, service, food and pub... More

We had been recommended the Walkerbouts by word of mouth and it proved to be a great call. The management and owners were the most welcoming we had encountered on our 8 month journey across Africa. They gave us a fantastic discount for the rondeval out the back, a really cosy spot to rest up after a few bumpy days... More
