Stayed at this hostel with the kids who were delighted to be staying in a real castle, even more so that we slept in a family room that used to be King John's banqueting hall, had dinner in what was his bedroom, dressed up as knights and generally revelled in the medieval atmosphere! Staff were brilliant, offering archery in the... More

Just stayed here for a long weekend. 61 of us all together , really clean, staff great, comfy beds. Would stay again. Lots of squeaky, floors and winding staircase . Great for kids with imagination. Great setting, lots of walks

We have just returned from St Briavels and can thoroughly recommend it. Although we were a bit anxious about bumping into ghosts in the night, the castle has a warm and friendly atmosphere and no ghost sightings during our stay! The staff are wonderful and really helpful. They were really good with the kids, reassuring them about the ghosts while... More

What a fantastic location. The kids loved staying in a castle, following in the footsteps of kings. Staff were great, friendly and helpful. Archery in the morning and we opted for the banquet where you dress up in costumes provided in the evening, highly recommend. Food was of a great standard and the historian at the Banquet was brilliant, really... More

I've stayed in a few youth hostels in the last couple of years, but this is now my favourite. It did take us a couple of tries to get in as it is booked up well in advance, and now I know why. Arrived early afternoon to a very friendly welcome, we'd already been told about and booked up for... More

Although it's a bit like camping (option to bring your own food, sharing showers and rooms), it was quite comfortable!! It's a great place for young families and adults alike. A great opportunity to weave some tales that incorporate the long history of this castle. The views are incredible and the property is spectacular. We opted to buy food there... More

stayed here with my wife and three kids for two nights in the Porters Lodge for two nights. Simple room with six beds, as comfortable as it could be. Great location, quite near to smashing local pub, though as nice to stay at the hostel for a drink. Next day we archery in the castle grounds for £3 a head... More

We stayed at the castle and had the room with old Throne. A lovely room with a skylight so I could see the stars from my bunk. Might not be the best room if you want to sleep in as its pretty bright early. We were lucky enough to be there when they had a medieval banquet. So we all... More

We came and stayed for two nights with 16 of our family and friends aged from 3 to 51. The Staff over the whole weekend were very helpful and friendly. On the Saturday night we went to the Medieval Banquet which was hosted by a really funny and informative compere, he was worth the night. The food was great and... More

Great place for families! How fun to stay in an actual medieval castle. Although my daughter was a little spooked by it. We enjoyed exploring the castle. The kids had an archery lesson in the morning.
