What a fantastic location. The kids loved staying in a castle, following in the footsteps of kings. Staff were great, friendly and helpful. Archery in the morning and we opted for the banquet where you dress up in costumes provided in the evening, highly recommend. Food was of a great standard and the historian at the Banquet was brilliant, really... More

I've stayed in a few youth hostels in the last couple of years, but this is now my favourite. It did take us a couple of tries to get in as it is booked up well in advance, and now I know why. Arrived early afternoon to a very friendly welcome, we'd already been told about and booked up for... More

Although it's a bit like camping (option to bring your own food, sharing showers and rooms), it was quite comfortable!! It's a great place for young families and adults alike. A great opportunity to weave some tales that incorporate the long history of this castle. The views are incredible and the property is spectacular. We opted to buy food there... More

stayed here with my wife and three kids for two nights in the Porters Lodge for two nights. Simple room with six beds, as comfortable as it could be. Great location, quite near to smashing local pub, though as nice to stay at the hostel for a drink. Next day we archery in the castle grounds for £3 a head... More

We stayed at the castle and had the room with old Throne. A lovely room with a skylight so I could see the stars from my bunk. Might not be the best room if you want to sleep in as its pretty bright early. We were lucky enough to be there when they had a medieval banquet. So we all... More

We came and stayed for two nights with 16 of our family and friends aged from 3 to 51. The Staff over the whole weekend were very helpful and friendly. On the Saturday night we went to the Medieval Banquet which was hosted by a really funny and informative compere, he was worth the night. The food was great and... More

Great place for families! How fun to stay in an actual medieval castle. Although my daughter was a little spooked by it. We enjoyed exploring the castle. The kids had an archery lesson in the morning.

We booked here for a single night in December - fully prepared to be cold and sleep on an uncomfortable bed, but we wanted something different and this fitted the bill. How wrong we were :-) From the fully informative emails keeping us up to date with the schedule for the evening to the warm welcome on arrival through the... More

Stopped at St Briavels for two nights with S.P.O.O.K.S. for a Paranormal Investaigation. The Building is Steeped in History, The Rooms are lovely, the beds comfotable, the facilities ideal and the Staff Exemplory. We had a Medieval Banquet one night and the Toast Master was excellent, knew all the History of the Venue and surrounding area and was very accomplished... More

My wife booked this, I was sceptical as not really know about youth hostelling, guess confused with the definition for youth. I have to say it was wonderful.....great for everyone! I went there with my family, two teens and a three yr old. The staff made the stay just amazing.....helpful, empathetic just added to experience. We enjoyed the banquet night,... More
