We loved the location - literally on the idyllic Kendwa beach - and we were fans of the breakfast (one of our friends lives in Tanzania and said it was the best bread she'd had since living there!). We were even happy with the basic bungalows - the bed was (initially...) fine, and the shower - yes, it just hung... More

Basically it does what it says on the box-a cheap, rustic bungalow good for crashing in at night. Price and proximity to the beach can't be beaten and it's at the quieter, less Italian end of Kendwa (although Wed night is Reggae night there and man was it loud!). Simon and the staff were very nice.

I should preface this review by saying that the weekend we stayed at Le toits de palme in June 2013 most hotels in the area (that were not full) were requesting something to the tune of $80 to $100 per night in Kendwa so when we were told $40 per dbl night we were a bit taken aback. What did... More

i really loved to be in Kendwa in the special for me bungalow place "Les toits de palme". It is a oase of silence between all the noisy hotels. I had my wedding night in one of the rooms and i wrote most part of my Bachelor thesis there. I had a swim with the silver coloured fish around and... More

My friend and I walked the whole length of Kendwa beach to find anything that resembled any sort of backpacker accomodation in Kendwa and this is as good as it got. Obviously Kendwa rocks attracts the numbers but the accomodation isn't as raw and is distanced from the beach. We stayed here for 6 nights and slept in two of... More

I didn't rate this hotel as "terrible" only because of its fantastic location, the facilities were appalling though. Les Toits de Palme would be a fantastic packpackers' paradise, if only the prices reflected what's on offer. But $80 per night is just far too much for what you get. We were meant to stay 9 nights but thankfully we left... More

I only have praise for this last true remaining "backpacker" haunt. Yes the bungalows are basic; in comparison with the other dominating 5 star all-inclusive Hotels. But I would argue that the simplicity of this well organized accommodation adds to the charm. The staff at all levels genuinely cares and I can’t thank them enough for such a warm welcome.... More

The food was good, hot running water in a very clean bathroom. You could even buy some fresh fish on the beach and the cook made it for a very small price! we had a very nice stay here! The staff was very friendly and open for suggestions.

We had booked in this hotel a month before arriving. While we were in our country we gave them a couple of calls just to make sure they still had our reservation. Every time we spoke on the phone they would announce to us that they had changed our room, or that they didnt have a room at this bungalow... More

My husband and I had a really bad experience at the Sunset Bungalow restaurant so we ventured down the beach and had a kind woman advise us to eat here and we are so glad she did!! The food was simply delish! The calamari was my favorite and was served with a hearty portion of rice and a veggie--better yet... More
