Melva and Hilton again treated us to another wonderful stay including cooking a delightful dinner, lending us their canoe for a trip down the river and sharing their great company. This IS the place to stay in this region

Its so nice to have return visitors. The Ngunguru River is a very nice paddle even in a funky canoe. Any one who has the time is welcome to borrow our funky canoe and go for a river trip, or if you are living in NZ bring your own kayak/canoe and do the trip. We can assist with the drop... More

We had a lovely and comfortable stay with Melva and Hilton. If you like good conversation and a couple of laughs this is the place for you. We were served a delicious impromptu dinner, and the breakfast was beautiful - home-preserved fruit, homemade muesli and granola. The room is gorgeous and the beds are super cosy. And all set in... Two nights at least, that way one gets a whole day on this coast. Diving for the day, winter and summer, or a day walking the bush tracks or the coastal walks. If one is up early there is time to do a bush walk and a coastal walk. We do our best to have the room nice and warm... More

Melva and Hilton run a fantastic B @ B, spotless accomodation, great food, One day is not enough to see the beautiful countryside, there is a lot to see and do, ideally in two to three days you would see quite a bit, and get to know these two highly well travelled Experienced sailors. Ten out of ten for this... More

The riverbank is more than a B&B. It provides something rare: Melva and Hilton really make you feel at home! We spend three days there and were very glad to have chosen to dine there. Melva's cooking is legendary and we had great company. I hope we'll be back to NZ in which case the Riverbank will feature again on... More

Homestay is a great option when you are hanging out for vegetables and a home style meal. I enjoy cooking for visitors and if there are any chilli fans out there we can do you hot food. Manzano chillies grow well here. Its lovely to have return visitors, sometimes we forget you are visitors and you get treated as our... More

The Riverbank is a beautiful, peaceful and ecofriendly place. The room and facilities are spotless, comfortable and spacious. The hosts, Melva and Hilton, made our stay the most memorable one of our whole trip to New Zealand! Melva's yummy homemade jams and honey for breakfasts and Hilton's amazing stories about the local area and their sailing trips were the reasons... More

Nice to have you back and it was my pleasure to do another "kiss the cook roast" and this time we weren't eating it at 11pm. :-). Yes, we are quite close to other places in Northland so day trips are an option especially to the west coast area. Keep up with the exquisite felting. More

We stayed with Hilton and Melva for 3 nights (5-7 Feb) on a Homestay basis, all meals included and what a fantastic experience it was. They are really friendly, welcoming hosts, so that we felt that we'd known them much longer. Poor weather prevented us going on our intended boat trips, but no matter, because Hilton gave us a guided... More

Hilton and Melva are a lovely, lovely couple. They made me feel very welcomed and taken care of. I traveled through New Zealand for about 3 weeks and stayed at multiple B&Bs, my best night was at the Riverbank. For me, the purpose of staying at a B&B is to feel homey, get to know the locals, their culture and... More

We booked into this B&B for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. The room is very clean, tidy and comfortable. There is a small sink, fridge area with tea and coffee making facilities ( very well equiped). The ensuite shower room is again very clean with a large shower and everything else you could need. The hosts, Melva and... More

I've walked the whole country for three and a half months staying in hostels and B&B's and my experience at Hilton and Melva's house was the best of the trip. Their warm welcome and very fine accommodation - clean, calm, and with a lot of special 'extras' - put one entirely at ease and make staying with them a great... More

Simpy put, Melva and Hilton go above and beyond to make their guests feel at home. From the well appointed room to the excellent meals, and the outstanding company, this was a wonderful visit. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer.
