Stumbled across Higher Melcombe Manor by chance an amazing manor house located in beautiful deepest Dorset. The house and gardens are amazing, the same could be said of our perfect host, Lorel and Alf, her adorable dog (a lurcher). Lorel couldn't be more welcoming to her home recommending places to visit and all the best pubs to eat in the... More

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a fabulous stay at Higher Melcombe Manor. Relaxed from the moment we arrived - due in part to our beautiful surroundings but especially due to our hosts Lorel and Michael (and Alf). Their obvious enjoyment in what they do and ease at which they do it generates a calm, contented atmosphere. We... More

Such a lovely old manor in an idyllic setting. Rooms were fantastic and the hospitality from Lorel and Michael (and Alfie) was really welcoming and friendly. They shared with us their wonderful home and all it's history. A very relaxing stay with lots of homely personal touches.

The house is wonderful, the countryside is glorious and Lorel and Michael are the perfect hosts. I stayed for one night during a business trip to the area and had a unique and memorable visit for about the cost of a room in a Premier Inn! There's no comparison. Visiting Higher Melcombe Manor is like rediscovering old friends, not least... More

Lorel and Michael really made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. We were greeted by Lorel, who led us through a very impressive series of rooms with a roaring fire going in the reception room. We went up to the our room - the panel room which was just stunning. Every detail was thought of from fresh... More

The house is located in a beautiful and quiet valley. The rooms are nice and the bathroom was very good. The breakfast is B&B standard. What ruined the stay was the fact that our host was overwhelmed by servicing two guests. She forgot dinner reservations and a tea promised was less important than talking to a friend on the phone.... Lorel gave us a wonderful welcome to her beautiful Manor. She made us feel us at home from the minute we arrived, and this was reinforced by the quality of the room she provided us with. The location is peaceful and idyllic situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Dorset. Breakfast was a feast and we had truly... More

Our group of 20 spent a weekend at Higher Melcombe Manor in May 2013. We had an excellent evening enjoying wine and dinner in the big banqueting hall. The catering was first rate all weekend, and the hosts were very welcoming - recommended.

I wanted to explore southern England and a friend recommended that I stay at Melcombe Manor and it was a great suggestion. It is a beautiful home in the county with green rolling hills and scenic farmland. When I arrived Lorel and her trusty dog, Alfie were there to greet me. One walks into a beutiful and well decorated foyer... More

We stayed with Lorel, Michael and Alf (the dog) in January, after many weeks of travel and we felt at home as soon as we arrived. Lorel is thoughtful of her guests needs and the rooms cater for a relaxing, peaceful stay. We had snow while there and the huge fire in the main lounge was so lovely to come... More
