When I hear the word hostel I imagine rooms packed full of rowdy students and backpacks, the aroma of weed and grubby bathrooms. It might have been the time of our visit (late August) or the fact that Bildudalur is a remote village in the north-western fjords but the place was almost empty, very clean, with comfortable beds and right... We spent one night in this hostel in a shared but spacious room. The location (right next to the harbor) is quite nice and there is a small but lovely restaurant close by where we had excellent burgers. The hostel itself is quite simple but it's a nice place to stop for a night before exploring the rest of the... More

Good clean hostel, helpful staff, beautiful town and as it turned out, good vantage point for seeing the northern lights, which is a truly unforgettable experience. Not much choice for accommodation in this part of Iceland but my expectations were exceeded.

Any lodging in this part of Iceland is good lodging. In this case, the room was clean, there were sufficient bathrooms, etc. What was missing was the warmth that often comes with arriving at new accommodations. Instead of helpfulness, we got coldness. We would stay again, but just wouldn't expect anything from the staff other than the basics.

We spent one night at This lovely 2 story hostel. Our private room was located upstairs, blankets again provided and you provide your own sheets and towels as was the case with all the HI hostels we/I visited in Iceland. The room itself was quite small and basic, but clean and comfortable enough. There are several washrooms with toilets/ sinks... More

Welcoming staff with ample facilities. Room was clean and comfortable. Perfect location to explore this portion of this West Fjords. Outdoor geothermal pool by the sea is just 30 minutes away. Many scenic road trips await in this area.

Decent place to stay if you're in the area. We found it a little expensive (around 100 dollar for a double room) considering this is a youth hostel with no bed linen except for the sheets, just one shared shower on the first floor, and the most basic breakfast we had on our entire trip through Iceland. On top of... More

We stayed one night at the beginning of June in this hostel, located right on the little harbour of this small town. Hostel has great facilities - well equipped kitchen, nice dining room, lounge with big TV with cable and lots of channels. We had a double room that was actually a family room (double plus two bunks) which gave... More

Our experience of Bíldudalur started badly, but had a very happy ending! We had been on the road for over 10 hours, driving from the tip of Snæfellsnes over some very trying gravel roads. We finally arrived at this beautiful, isolated harbour town at 7:30. The hostel was easy to find, down by the harbour, but it was shut! Since... More

Very basic, but very clean. Good value for the price. However, be forewarned that they do charge for sheets AND for towels. We literally spent about 12 hours in this hostel, so we really can't comment on the other facilities. Location right in the harbour, which can be a bit noisy as they work through the night. There are no... More
