This is not a gastro pub, nor does it pretend to be. Serving great local real ales and food aimed at value for money, this is perfect for the walkers. We ate here after completing the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge and our whole party was more than happy with the food, regardless of other reviews on here. Great service from... More

I've just returned from a trip to Horton, my base for the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. We popped into the pub on Friday night for some food. The place was packed and under staffed; the drinks selection was mediocre. The decor is horrendous throughout; it's like a country pub hooked up with a working man's club from the 1970s and spawned... More

I stayed here with 7 mates to do the Yorkshire three peaks challenge. There is a very lively and friendly feel about the place. The rooms are more than adequate for what we wanted: clean, tidy and functional. Do not visit this place if you are expecting luxury, as the cost of the stay reflects. The staff were great and... A perfect base for walking in the Yorkshire Dales, particularly the three Yorkshire Peak Challenge. Myself, partner and 7 other friends stayed at the Golden Lion when we walked the Yorkshire Three Peak challenge. We arrived Friday, walked Saturday and left after breakfast on Sunday. I was a little concerned after reading some of the TA reviews, I have been... More

Sat in the pub now, it's completely heaving with people. We came in for a few beers and food. The menu was limited on a Friday and Saturday. We ordered two pints of Strongbow cider and homemade Chilli Con Carne, boiled rice, chips and side salad. It was a self serve / carvery type affair. I made my way through... More

Dreadful food. Never experienced brussle sprouts in a lasagne and there is a reason. Chips were nice but that is all. Full of frozen veg but no taste. Avoid. Busy but unwelcoming. Toilets not very nice either.

I was in a party of four that made the mistake of stopping here for lunch, the pub was empty when we arrived at 11.50am, we ordered 3 hot chocolates and a pot of tea, these took 30 minutes to be made, we then ordered 2 lasagne and 2 chicken and chips, we all had a long wait for the... More

Arrived Midday ish after a walk up to Pen y ghent from horton. Got drinks easily, Ordered 4 meals, had to wait almost an hr for 2 chichen & chips. Then a further 15 mins for 2 lasagna & salad. It was empty. No music, no atmosphere. Given the choice, I'd give it a miss.

We stopped for a sandwich and a beer. Although there was home cooked ham the sandwiches were of cheap white bread. There was no spread on my husbands bread, no garnish and the food was plonked on the plate. The beer and lager were not good either. The loos were very basic with tiles falling from the walls. This was a very... More
