We hired a cottage for a week in Horton along with our friends. We had 3 dogs between us. On the first day we took a walk in the village and visited the Crown Hotel. The beer garden was closed and we were told in no uncertain terms that they didn't allow dogs anywhere on the premises. We had a... More

My friends and I had an evening Meal at the crown and it was a little lacklustre. OK, so not all pub-grub should be all singing and dancing, it is what it is, but a pub that serves “Home cooked” food definitely disappoints when accompanied by oven chips! I mean, how hard is it to peel a potato really? As... More

I have to admit, I was a bit wary having read some of the reviews (not even asked if they wanted a sweet! Shock horror!). The missus and I were pleasantly surprised with our stay here. The room was clean, warm and comfortable and the food, both dinner and brekkie were delicious. Having read the negative reviews regarding the lack... More

We stopped at the Crown Hotel on the way up to the Lake District to break up a long drive and I can say I'm very pleased we did. The owners were incredibly helpful and the accommodation was cozy and good value for what we paid. The food and drink here were exceptional and although the pub was busy with... More

Called in for dinner, the food was good, very good portion sizes, and the waitress was very friendly. The menu whilst limited was good quality, as was the drinks menu. Price wise, this place offered good value for money.

I have arranged a group trip to do the Y3P, when I called the crown hotel I was greeted by a lovely lady who gave me lots of information and was more than helpful, Perfect location for walkers Not the Ritz but then it's not described as the ritz so I'd ignore the bad reviews. If your a walker this... More

We were on a recce last weekend to find potential accommodation for when we do the three peaks next year and The Crown seemed like the perfect location to base ourselves. So we called in for a drink. Unfortunately, as soon as you enter there are multiple signs right in front of you stating exactly what isn't welcome - no... More

Yet again you fail to say that the sign says NO MUDDY BOOTS UPSTAIRS , We are a walking pub and we ask our residents to remove their muddy boots before going upstairs, what is wrong with that. No we dont allow dogs and that is a request from the majority of our customers. We are only a small pub,... More

My Husband booked this Hotel as a surprise as he was taking me to Bronte Country. Fantastic gesture but he didn't look on this site - I did and told him it didn't look up to much but I was willing to see for myself. I wasn't surprised, shocked would be more suitable. What a total dump, forget character as... More

We quite clearly state on our website we are not a 5 star chic boutique hotel. What we are is a small country old fashioned pub with letting rooms. They might have mis-matched old fashioned furniture, but all in working order, Everything is spotlessly clean, Majority of our guests are walkers who prefer to have a bath after a long... More

Called in for a drink and meal with friends. Nice location and setting. Found the staff OK as was the pub, but the landlord was brusque and unfriendly for no reason and we didn't feel welcome so we won't be going again

Stayed for Yorkshire 3 peaks weekend, rooms are 20 years out of date carpet in bathroom etc bar staff ok needs a bit of music in bar area, breakfast was ok very unorganised due to overcomplicated ordering system with some people left waiting for an hour before grumpy Scottish chef come out and asked if everyone had been fed! It does state on our website that we aren't a 5 star chic boutique hotel, but a small comfortable clean hotel which serves good food and beer. It's your personal preference that you don't like carpet in a bathroom just because it's the modern way nowadays doesn't mean to say we all have to follow suit. We are in the... More
