Staff friendly on arrival. Rooms quite basic. Set menu which was terrible. Food overcooked and tasteless. When we went to bed I discovered that my bottom sheet had dried blood on it and clearly had not been changed. Fortunately there was still a member of staff in the bar who phoned the housekeeper who arrived and put us in the... More

A complaint regarding a soiled bottom sheet was lodged with the on duty barman, who immediately contacted the house keeping supervisor, who in turn addressed the matter with the guests concerned. On inspecting the linen a fresh spot of blood was apparant and the guests were given the option of fresh linen or to be moved to the room next... More

We have just spent 2 nights on a houseboat (rented out by the Malagas Hotel) and then 1 night at the Malagas Hotel. I will start with a few positive remarks: the location is amazing; the dinner was nice and the staff are friendly (except one receptionist) and the beds in the hotel are very comfortable (we were in room... We stayed 4 nights in one of the small twin rooms on the 1st floor. Basic, rustic, but neat & comfortable accommodation under the roof offering good value for just spending the night, while travelling the many Nature reserves in the neighborhood by day. Shower with plenty hot water, but only curtain. Beautiful garden and plenty of birds. Fishing the... More

The setting is perfect, the staff friendly, caring and tops! The food is real food and tasty, we had dinner, bed & breakfast, the rooms large with patio, prices good and all over an wonderful experience - the retired owner can leave the work in the hands of the very capable staff & enjoy being retired! We will definitely be... More

We stayed for two nights in one of the recently refurbished Superior Triple rooms. The room itself was large, tastefully furnished,a King sized double bed and very well equipped from a nicely sized flat screen TV (with sufficient channels),tea and coffee to a cozy patio. The modern bathroom had a plentiful supply of hot water with fluffy towels. The only criticism would... More

Spent two nights at the Malagas Hotel really enjoyed the relaxed feel and friendly staff. The rooms were neat and well fitted with fridge and TV (with DSTV access). The meals were wholesome and tasty with good variety. This is a nice place to get away from it all and enjoy some Country lodge atmosphere and good food. I would... More

We were tempted to the Malagas Hotel by their website gallery and glowing accolades on their home page, and hoped that the less than complimentary comments on TripAdvisor were perhaps overly critical. But our experience confirmed that TripAdvisor guest comments were more accurate than their website pages. From our 'superior' downstairs room we could hear very bathroom activity of guests... More

For those exploring the Overberg and the Agulhas plains, the Malagas hotel is a delightful oasis. It has to be approached on dirt roads which can be a test for overseas visitors, but they are really OK (a good tip is to reduce tyre pressures to 2.0 bars.) The rooms are tiny but immaculate, and the half board rates are... More

My wife and I travelled with friends and stayed for1 night. The setting is unique in that you can make use of (probably) the only functional ferry in RSA to get to the hotel. The rooms are well apportioned and clean. Due to the lack of air conditioning, the heat tends to build up in the rooms. The dinner and... More

Thank you for this informative review of the Malagas Hotel for future guests. We are currently working on a system to get WiFi in the rooms as well. Unfortunately the road condition is not at its best this time of the year after a busy holiday season on the river and the heavy vehicles used for harvesting. More

The Hotel is quaint, and the hosts tried. Was a bit disappointed by the New Years Eve dinner. Although we knew it would be a braai, they could have put more effort in to ensure the food was at least good. The pap was raw, meat tasted bland and boiled, and was so tough, you were still chewing the next... More
