This place is very good for bear watching. We saw more than 20 in 5 hours including 3 moms with cubs. Holidy could not have been any better. The stay is 100 % about bears. They have transformed an ex border guard station into a nice little hotel that serves food as well. Beds are OK and nobody really cares... More

Brilliant stay. Nice and comfortable location with simple local cuisine. This stay is all about the bears though. The hides are excellent and they come really close to the main hide. A second night in the swamp hides are highly recommended as these provide greater photography opportunities.

We stayed a night in the large bearhide and we were thrilled to see bears of all ages and sizes come and go from 6pm to 11pm. We counted 15 at the one time, including a mother and 3 six month old cubs! There were 9 of us in the hide including our guide who spoke excellent English and was... More

We stayed in Martinselkosen Erakeskus in May. This place is fantastic - the area is beautiful, pretty much in the middle of nowhere, the house is very clean and comfortable, the hosts are very welcoming. We went for Brown Bear watching, and it was excellent. In act, once Bear visited us right in Martinselkosen Erakeskus. There is plenty to do... More

This was my second time in Finland for bear/wildlife watching and photography. I had heard great things about Martinselkonen and they were all deserved! Bears are really aplenty it is unbelievable! One night we probably saw more than 20 different individuals including 3 families with 3 cubs each (fantastic moments!). We have spent 2 nights in the large heated hide... More

This is THE place to stay if you want to see and or photograph European wild brown bears. The centre is clean, warm and comfortable. The staff are welcoming and incredibly helpful. The food was really good and the whole place was impecably organised in order to allow guests the best chance to see bears in the wild. I can't... More

Martinselkonen wildlife centre really is in the middle of nowhere, but close to the Russian border and steeped in history. The whole area is a simple mixture of pine forest and lakes, interspersed with small towns seemily buried in the trees. it is stunningly beautiful. The centre itself provides good, clean and basic accomodation with freshly cooked wholesome food. The... More

I've been there for three days for the Brown Bears photography. This is the most comfortable place you can find in the area. Rooms are new and very clean and the food was pretty good. The photo experience is simply amazing.

This is a simply wonderful place set in remote forest close to the Russian border. You are most likely to visit in order to see the bears. The bear hides are set a few kilometres away and you are driven there in the late afternoon. A short, quiet walk through the woods brings you to the two hides, which are... More
