We drove to Drakensbergen from Durban for a one night stay there and it's well worth it. We stayed at the Antbear Guesthouse after reading the reviews on this site and we were very pleased with the accommodation. It's situated on top of a hill with a beautiful view onto the green valley with Drakensbergen in the background. We stayed... More

The approach is via a very bumpy country road, no doubt impassable in rainy weather. However, the arrival of your clay-covered car is rewarded by spectacular views of the Drakensberg foothills as the lodge is set on an escarpment. Its decor is unique in the proper sense of the word as the hand crafted furniture attests to no aesthetic other... More

My husband and I needed a break in the action and decided to stay at Antbear. It was exactly what I was hoping it would be - quirky, charming, relaxing and quiet. Since it is usually the two of us traveling, I really like to book places where there is communal dining. We find it so much fun to share... More

The drive there is breath taking and the roads are good. Once you've arrived you can look back out over the Drakensberg which is beautiful. The rooms are individual and in a garden setting so there is complete privacy. With big comfy beds, log fires, very cool bathrooms and all the trimmings we were completely relaxed - it suited us... Creativity literally is bursting out of the rooms when you book a stay at the AntBear in the Drakensberg Mountains. A master wood builder with an imagination running in peak form is at work in the bed you lie down on, the armoire holding your clothes, the table on which you place your belongings, or even the chair upon which... I was surprised when I realized that meals were taken communally, at a single large table. But then i remembered why i love B&B-style lodging: isn't the point to meet new people, discuss what you've seen in the area, describe past and future travels? My friend and i shared the table with people from several countries, inc. USA, So. Africa,... More

I read the reviews on Trip advisor before going to Antbear and I decided to book for four nights. I had never had this kind of holiday experience before where you were expected to eat and socialise with other guests. Some people love the idea of a communal breakfast discussing with others what you are going to do with your... More

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at the Antbear Guest House. We acknowledge that we did have water problems and that they were fixed within a few hours. It does happen that the water is not clear if the pipes get worked on or after heavy rains and then it takes a few days to clear... More

The Antbear has become my husband and my favorite place to stay -- not just in the Berg, but anywhere we travel (which is a lot and often). Conny & Andrew are host/ess par excellence. You won't find warmer, friendlier, or more helpful folks. And, the rooms are creatively and comfortably appointed. There's a sort of "rustic" feel, but with... More

My boyfriend and I spent one night at the Antbear in September 2010. We arrived late on a Saturday afternoon with no reservation -- we were on our way home to Joburg from Durban and decided to spend a night in the Drakensberg. We found the Antbear on Wheretostay.co.za and decided to take our chances and just show up. The... More
