My husband and I stayed at Antbear a couple of years ago and enjoyed our stay so much that we returned with other members of my family this year. We did enjoy our stay this time too but they are in the middle of expanding which left things feeling a little disjointed and less friendly than before plus the new... More

Antbear Lodge is a far out place smack in the middle of God's own nature. We regret we had only booked 1 night! Andrew and Connie are doing a beautiful job building a "home" for everyone in this fantastic part of the world. Also Andrew's father deserves credits for his fantastic woodwork in the central house and in the guest... More

The place is just the perfect place to stay when visiting the Drakensberg area. The owners are friendly and very helpful with tips for activities. The guest houses are lovely designed and gorgeous. Breakfast and supper are so good that you might get addicted to it. ;-)

I stopped over for a few days of hiking in the Drakensberg, and it turned out to be the perfect place. Wonderful accomodation in a beautiful setting, excellent food, a very welcoming and warm atmosphere.

The only thing I regret about my stay in Antbear Guest House is that I only got to spend one night here. My private bungalow was spacious, clean, with a great view of the valley and mountain range, loads of beautiful woodcraft details and mosaics (as well as a jacuzzi!) in my bathroom. I had a private fireplace with the... More

We stayed at the Antbear for two nights as part of our honeymoon trip. We stayed in the cave which was very quirky and well appointed (apart from the outside loo) The location is extremely remote with a drive down a dirt track for several kilometres... It is a very unusual place and not what we expected. The communal meal... More

Ant Bear is a labour of love for Andrew and Connie. They have made it as individual as possible and Phumlani (Front of house) adds so much value with his experiences. (Not only at Ant Bear, he was a TV journalist.) The rooms are spacious, and the guests are encouraged to dine together, although you don't have to. It is... More

We booked a long time ahead in order to stay in the luxury cave as a special end to our SA trip and really loved the quirky room, the real fire and the wonderful woodwork, not to mention the little bottle of ? sherry in the room! The communal meal times were the highlight of the stay, meeting and talking... More

The views at Antbear are breathtaking and well worth the drive to get there - and the rooms are very comfortable (we really enjoyed the log fires in each bedroom as well!). At mealtimes there is a chance to talk with Phumlani - an amazing and charming man, with a fascinating life story and a very gentle & modest attitude... More

At almost midwinter we spent three fantastic days at Antbear Guest House as convenient base to explore the Midlands and central Drakensberg - in accommodation that was comfortable, aesthetically unique and inspiring - with windows, doors and furniture handcrafted by Andrew and his father and Pumlani - incorporating various features to conserve energy without sacrificing comfort
