The Balsams is a beautiful hotel/mountain resort in the small town known ofDixville Notch,NH. The hotel is incredible inside and outside. The staff was very pleasant, and accomodated our many needs. One example was my friend's husband made a hole in his suit jacket, and we went to the front desk, who set him up with a spare jacket that... More

Don't lose the magic when you renovate. No phones or TVs please! My 14 yo refuses to return because of the renovations. Too many good memories! I am hoping to change her mind. We will not like too much change either. Keep the dining room and food the same! The Balsams is one of America's last great places!

The Balsams has been purchased from the Tillotson Foundation by two local businessmen and has been closed for renovations. It is expected that it will remain closed for another year. Hopefully it will reopen for the Summer 2013 season. The new owners intend the renovations to prepare the property for "the next fifty years." They will include major improvements to... More

My husband and I have stayed at the balsams each year the past 4 years. We love the charm of the resort, the included activities and most of all the fantastic 5 course dinners made by the students of there culinary school! I hope the new owners don't turn this place into another modernized resort but restore it to its... More

Last trip in Pittsburg was great. Weather, trail conditions, Granite State Power as always, until we rode to the balsams. As we got inside, Dan Davis, "security" was at his post and kindly asked us to hang our jackets on the empty coat rack outside the tavern along without helmets. While we were inside, along with 6 other individuals at... More

The Balsams is tucked away in Dixville Notch, a remote area of northern NH, and is a special experience of top quality dining, a quiet place for relaxation and a special family experience. The property includes a golf course, ski hill with shuttle service, game room, nightclub-- and what it does not include makes it special-- no TVs in rooms,... More

I went with my boyfriend and his entire family. There was always something for us to do! Dinner was amazing, they have an onsite culinary school and the students are the ones who create the wonderful five course meals. The golfing and scenary was something out of a movie. The employees there were very helpful (because they run off tips),... More

We've been coming to the Balsams as NH residents for years, and even found a way to come back while living in Oregon. . .so you know that this review will tend toward the favorable. Indeed, the Balsams is a unique place, with a one-of-a-kind-charm. They have been in a bit of a tailspin, I suspect, since they farmed out... More

My family and I have visited the Balsams a number of times in both the winter and the summer. For the winter, the fact that they have their own ski mountain and a huge number of cross-country and snowshoe trails is a huge plus. Great conditions and no crowds - ever. In the summer there are the 7000 acres of... More

My husband and I spent the weekend at The Balsams, Dixville Notch, N.H. We hadn't stayed there in 10 years and looked forward to the trip. The old hotel, one of the oldest grand hotels in the U.S., sits in the breathtaking cradle of Dixville Notch with a charming little lake in front, sweeping green lawns, flowers, Adirondack chairs, wrap...
