The Dundas Arms improved greatly a couple of years ago, at last making the most of the setting and enhancing the restaurant, so we chose it for our special anniversary celebration which took place three weeks ago. It is also a lovely 2 hour walk through beautiful Berkshire from our house in Newbury, which ticks our boxes nicely. There were... More

I've stayed a couple of times and both times the rooms were charming, clean, very well appointed and homely. I love the humour of having a gun safe in each of the hunting themed rooms. Well recommended and now the place I will try and stay in each time I visit.

Judging from what is suggested in other reviews and what we found out during our visit, this place has had difficulties living up to the promise of its excellent location and attractive building. From what we experienced, it seems to have turned a corner. We stayed two nights for a large celebration and enjoyed one of the downstairs rooms which... More

This pub/hotel is a lovely building in a great setting. Unfortunately the service/facilities provided are not good enough for the prices charged. Booked 2 rooms in June. Encountered five members of staff during our stay. Staff 1- shown to one room and given one key, even though on arrival we told him we had booked 2 rooms. When shown to... More

We stayed here in June - Hotel is situated on the Kennet/Avon canal and has a very pretty garden. Our room - I believe was called a 'Cottage room' overlooked a side canal and we were treated to visits by ducks/moorhens and garden birds. However, our room was disappointing in that there was not any finishing touches - no fridge,... More

Unfortunately arriving at the beautifully set Dundas Arms was the best part of the visit as it went rapidly downhill from there. Having chosen a seat in the pleasant but overgrown garden we were disappointed to be told that there was a 30 minute wait before we could at least place an order. We bought some drinks and returned to... More

How can this only have 3.5 stars!! They claim to be a pub with rooms so I was unsure what to expect other than not much to be honest. How wrong was I? A group of us came for a day fly fishing (less than 5 minutes away) and stayed here the night prior. We started with drinks and dinner... More

Stopped off here for the night on a cycle tour and what a welcome break it was. We sampled the pub, the food, the rooms and the brekkie in the morning. All were pretty damn good and overall made for an excellent stay here. They've got a great big beer garden out the back, which captures the summer evening sun.... More

Lovely setting and can recommend a room with a terrace...even though the weather was too poor to use it! The staff were friendly and helpful. There is a slight problem with the hot water in the mornings so a bracing shower was had but this was rectified quickly, which is fine if you have time to go back for another one...
