When I think Of Mt.Bischoff, first of all I have to remind myself of its worldwide relevance. This is a frontier territory. As a European, Tasmania, is an extreme place, down, down under, then when you talk of Waratah, we're talking, a quiet NW corner of the island, surrounded by the impregnable, mysterious bush; but, at the same time, when... I stay at the Bischoff from time to time when I am in the area for work. The town itself is very picturesque, in a 'tidy town' way, with ponds & parks on the main street, great mountain views and a waterfall right across from the hotel. Best view ever! The area has a very interesting mining history, with relics... More

Our room was on the ground floor and had uninterupted views of the waterfall. Apart from the waterfall and a little mining history there is little else there to see. It is sadly like so many other far out places in Australia almost out of business. The "hotel" stands in prime position in the village with derelict premises to either side.(possibly... More

The Bischoff was a great base for a few nights while we worked in the area. It does the basics well - good pub food and plenty of it, and comfortable beds, all in a character-laden building. Only quibble was non-functioning bedside lights. Rooms range from very basic (not much more than a bed) to 'cottages' on the hill above... More

We stopped into this quaint little place after our cradle mountain adventure... A quiet retreat in an old country pub- even had a bath. Super friendly family run pub/motel. Richard and his parents looked after us! Didn't realise need to pre-order dinner on a Sunday .... Richard made sure we were well fed anyway.

This is more a pub with rooms than a hotel. I requested a groundfloor room and got the only one. It was a large room, decorated in an olde worlde style, but everything was in good condition and very attractive. However, the bathroom was very modern with a spa bath. I was amused that the toilet had been placed in... More

As far as pub room accommodation is concerned, the Bishoff Hotel offers very good value for the prices. Think about the en-suite double room with a view for a treat. The pub is the only choice for meals in town, suggest keep with choices that require simple preparation such as salad and chips and hamburgers. Maybe bring some fruit for... More

This is a character old-style pub in a very quiet mining town in Tasmania. The town itself is worth a trip, it has a small gorge running through the middle of it with a waterfall. When we visited the town was looking very pretty and well kept, but did have the air of a living museum about it. While there... More
