Our family stayed here for three nights in June. It was the perfect staging ground to explore the ruins in this area (Uxmal, the Puuc Route, and some other smaller sites. We also drove into Merida for a while.) The cabins are lovely and comfortable and there's a nice pool, but the best thing of all is the food. The... More

You and your family were great to have around.i loved your enthusiasm to see as many ruins as you could whilst here and there are many! The "jungle" experience can be quite well rewarded and so happy you adjusted the way you did to the heat. Thank you so much for your comments they are really appreciated. I hope you... More

So I had been hiking the Ruta Puuc for a few days. I had seen the Pickled Onion on a google map before I flew into Mexico. It was on my walking route and the name was intriguing so I made it a point to find it. I was overly impressed as soon as I walked up. The place is... More

We had some of the best food during our trip through the Yucatan while at The Pickled Onion. It was served fast too. Their bag lunches are terrific too, especially the egg salad. They serve big and wonderful salads that are safe even for tourists to eat, and incredible fresh fruit plates I highly recommend. They were flexible with orders,... More

We work in the area of Santa Elena for part of each summer and The Pickled Onion is our favorite place to relax from the demands of our research time under rustic conditions. Valerie has made an incredibly beautiful and tranquil oasis that she constantly improves each year. The accommodations are reasonably priced, lovely, very well maintained, and very luxurious... More

My wife and I along with another couple spent a night in this wonderful place. We found the cabanas clean, comfortable (great mattress) and bug free, despite being in the jungle. No air con, but no big deal, the high papapa roof along with the fan keeps you cool and by the morning I was almost chilly! As the jungle air cools... More

Thank you so much for a wonderful revue and for taking the time to write. Raymundo is a gem if you engage him in conversation .... this is how you get the best out of the Maya people. They do not impose and have respect keeping a distance whilst giving good service but as I mentioned before engage them in... More

An extremely unique and peaceful B&B. We visited last summer and only had one night there, but we would love to go back again. Very friendly and helpful owner, and the rooms were absolutely beautiful. Not to mention, the food was amazing!

Valerie Pickles, the owner, has created a lovely oasis for travelers en route to the fabulous Uxmal Ruins and several others nearby. A good road leads you there. Perched on a hillside, the inn is composed of Mayan style palapa huts, great swimming pool, restaurant with excellent food, bar and parking area. Ceiling fans cool the rooms and air conditioning... This is such a great place to stay and what a location. Equidistant both from Uxmal and Kabah. Uxmal just a 10-15 minute drive away. Rooms are nicely decorated as huts and very clean and comfortable. the place is beautiful with all the tropical trees and even spotted several neem trees, which I had never seen outside India until now.... The Pickled Onion is right on Ruta Puuc, between the sites of Kabah and Uxmal, which makes it a perfect spot to stay at night when visiting this wonderful region.
