Stumbled across this most amazing place by accident. Bumped into a another couple while visiting the small town of Santa Elena. They told us of this placed they were staying at called the Pickled Onion. My wife and I checked it out and were glad we did. The cabana's were beautifully decorated, the beds were comfy, and pool was an... More

We had the most amazing time at the Pickled Onion. It was recommended by friends and we couldn't be more thankful. Mrs. Valerie, the owner, treated us like family and made us feel most welcome. The B&B employees were wonderful and always ready to make us feel welcome. The native plants which she has planted and preserved and that surround... More

We stayed two nights at the Pickled Onion, when traveling from Campeche to Merida. A very good location, clean and cosy cabins, a nice pool, a very good restaurant and breakfast, and nice staff, and above all, Valerie (the owner) will help you to make the right choices visiting interesting places in the surrounding area. After visiting Uxmal in the... More

I have lived in Yucatan for 38 years. When my friends and family come to visit from Canada, the USA and Europe, I like to take them to visit the archaeological site of Uxmal. Afterwards we go to The Pickled Onion for lunch and a rest before returning to Merida. Sometimes we stay the night in one of the charming.... More

The Pickled Onion transmits relax at first sight. The cabanas are simple on the outside, but well designed in the inside, clean, functional and with comfy beds (and extra amaca)! Despite a very hot period, I didn't felt the lack of the A/C. The owner makes her part to help you enjoy your staying. Perfectly located close to Uxmal, but... More

So happy you enjoyed your stay here it was indeed a pleasure to have you here with me So many people tell me how relaxed they feel coming here and some regret that they only stay for one night.... Our family stayed here for three nights in June. It was the perfect staging ground to explore the ruins in this area (Uxmal, the Puuc Route, and some other smaller sites. We also drove into Merida for a while.) The cabins are lovely and comfortable and there's a nice pool, but the best thing of all is the food. The... More

You and your family were great to have around.i loved your enthusiasm to see as many ruins as you could whilst here and there are many! So I had been hiking the Ruta Puuc for a few days. I had seen the Pickled Onion on a google map before I flew into Mexico. It was on my walking route and the name was intriguing so I made it a point to find it. I was overly impressed as soon as I walked up. The place is... More

We had some of the best food during our trip through the Yucatan while at The Pickled Onion. It was served fast too. Their bag lunches are terrific too, especially the egg salad. They serve big and wonderful salads that are safe even for tourists to eat, and incredible fresh fruit plates I highly recommend. They were flexible with orders,... More

We work in the area of Santa Elena for part of each summer and The Pickled Onion is our favorite place to relax from the demands of our research time under rustic conditions. Valerie has made an incredibly beautiful and tranquil oasis that she constantly improves each year. The accommodations are reasonably priced, lovely, very well maintained, and very luxurious... More
