I stayed at Castello Santa Maria for four nights in September during my first trip to Italy. The hotel is very elegant, both inside and out. The grounds have groves of olive trees, figs, pomegranates and quince. Inside, there are beautiful works of art and Etruscan relics. The owner, Diego, is very attentive and helpful. I stayed in a cottage... More

We stayed four nights at the Castello, a member of the well-named Charme & Relax network of country hotels. The Castello was originally a monastery founded in the 15th Century. It is now a hotel with several cottages set in an olive grove. We shared the modern Broom Cottage with another couple. We had two bedrooms and two baths with... More

We give our best recommendation for this place for a romantic and authentic stay. Everything was cell kept, clean an good organized and we were met with high hospitality. We stayed a week w. 2 kids. We stayed in the house next to the main entrance. Three good bedrooms. However the house was very dark. Note that electricity is 1... More

We have stayed at the Antica Casa for two weeks beginning of July. We had very mixed feelings about the "stylishly equipped villa" that was described to us when we got there. It is set in a beautiful and quiet area, surrounded by olive trees and beautiful views. The castle is very well looked after and the swimming pool area... More

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary and we were not disappointed. Lovely hotel situated in an olive grove/forest with wonderful views. The hosts could not do enough for us and were very friendly. They opened up the 14th century chapel so we could go in and see the wonderful frescos. Breakfast was superb, set in an large... More

The Castello Santa Maria just outside Civitello d'Agliano was fabulous, especially in a cultured sense, very quiet, a restored 15th and 17th century priory with some of the original walls and roof and original frescoes in its chapel. The décor is beautiful. It is like a very comfortable, hospitable museum. Our room was like a beautiful dream in every way.... More

This is a wonderful place - a hidden gem! DIego and family such fabulous hosts! What a fantastic time we had here, one of the highlights of our trip. This restored 16th century monastery has many treasures to offer. The food is wonderful, with the best olive oil we had in Italy - grown in their olive groves! Diego's jams... More

The view from the pool and around the castle are amazing, but we were the only guests, eat three nights, got a huge bill, everything was charged without showing the costs up front. As an example: the desert had brownie and ice, got charged separately to increase the charge of desert ! We didn't go there for a 4 star... More

I recently stayed here with my family with mixed reviews. The place was entirely empty (we were the only guests) which was actually the best part of the experience. This is a beautiful old building that was restored in the early 80s and unfortunately hasn't been updated since then. It's worn, tired, and musty. There was no shower curtain on... More

Hello Halle, me and my family are completely upset after reading your review. You choose to rent the "Antica Casa" which is a self catering Villa and is attached to the Castello. As described, the Villa is composed by 3 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 living room and is furnished with air conditioning, bed and bath linen and washing... More

We were immediately enthralled and delighted by the Castello di Santa Maria and its spectacular surroundings on the Lazio-Umbria border. Diego and his family have reinvigorated this 16th century monastery with all of the amenities one would expect of a luxury hotel, but have done so in a way that retains the historical charm of the original structure. No attention... More
