When booking my hotel for San Gimignano, I assumed Vecchio Asilo was in the centre of the old town. Obviously, I hadn't done my research properly, for this little hotel is actually in a totally different town - Ulignano. My careless mistake turned out to be a blessing, as VA is a sweet little stead, with the charming and friendly... More

i picked this place purely by accident, tired of too much research, i thought, this will do. WELL! This turned out to be the best place in our whole 9 weeks of travel. Elio & Stephania were the ultimate hosts. the b&b was spotless. the location fabulous, we could sit on the terrace with our platter of antipasto & wine... More

We stayed here for 4 nights in May 2014. Elio was a perfectly gracious and attentive host. The accommodations were outstanding: Simple, comfortable, spotlessly clean, reasonably priced, and conveniently located for exploring the Tuscan hill towns of San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena, Colle Val d'Elsa, Monteriggioni, etc. The breakfasts were delicious, bountiful, beautifully presented with fresh fruit, freshly baked sweets and... I would give Hotel Vecchio Asilo a hearty thumbs up for those travellers who, after a busy day of driving and exploring new places, crave the peace and quiet of ‘home’ because that is the atmosphere you will enjoy here - a home from home. For various reasons we travelled to Tuscany at a time we would normally have avoided... More

What a fabulous time we had here, two nights in room 7 which has wonderful views over the Tuscan hills. The place is absolutely spotlessly clean, cleanest place in anywhere we have stayed. Stephania and Elio speak great english, they are so helpful and gave us recommendations for eating and visiting. They gave us a wonderful map of Tuscany that... More

This is a really nice relaxing property with great views of the Tuscany countryside. We felt like we were the only ones there a lot of the time when there were plenty of other guests - this really helps create an intimate atmosphere. It was lovely being able to purchase a bottle of local wine and drink it watching the... More

We visited Hotel Vecchio Asilo for 4 nights, for our honeymoon. It is an adorable small hotel in a beautiful part of Tuscany, and the hosts, Stefania and Elio, are absolutely wonderful people! They are extremely kind, and helped us immeasurably. They are extremely kind and thoughtful - Stefania baked my husband a small and very delicious birthday cake, when... More

We stayed with Elio and Stefania in late May/early June. I can't say enough about the service we received. The rooms were charming, the views spectacular, but by far the service and hospitality were the best thing about the hotel. Elio went above and beyond to recommend cities to see, restaurants, and routes. Every morning he served us the most... More

My wife and I stayed at this hotel while traveling by car through the San Gimignano area. The hotel is a converted farmhouse, and before that it was a watchtower for San Gimignano in the 12th century. I chose this hotel based on other recommendations that said that Elio provided excellent information on places to visit. This was certainly true... More

Six of us stayed at this hotel whilst travelling from around the San Gimignano area. Elio and Stefania were the perfect hosts helping with bags, giving info about the hotel and giving us recommendations for dinner in S.G. Elio's breakfast was amazing, along with Stefania's home baked cakes. My 4 year old decided he only wanted to eat strawberries and... More
