Cold, unfriendly landlord who spent most of the evening outside smoking, freezing pub, cheap frozen food, undrinkable wine, never again. I hope this changes hands soon and the village get the pub they deserve.

Visited village again recently. Pub going downhill fast as time goes on. Food was good when chef was on duty, otherwise was not. Situation now is no food for several days, chef has left and no-one else seems to be doing it. Have now heard there wasn't even a supper for Quiz Night. Locals complaining about quality of the beer.... More

Spent 3 nights here the owner is a lovely lady and boy does she do a mean meal we had fish and chips I have never tasted anything like it and the fish was skinned so it made it easier for me the batter was to die for. Breakfast was really hot and very filling also. Only a few comments... More

My husband and I and my parents went to The George Tuesday 12th for a meal...It was our anniversary the previous Saturday and we were being treated by my parents. We had a table right in the middle of the bar/restaurant but had plenty of room to move about...We all had a steak meal...Hubby and dad had the 8oz rump... More

The four rooms at The George Inn are situated in what was presumably the original stabling block and are small, although enough room to walk around bed comfortably. Bedding good quality and some trouble taken to make the room look comtemporary. No wardrobe hanging, but some drawer space available to put clothes. The refurb was obviously a while back and... We booked 2 nights at The George when looking for somewhere to stay locally for an event. From start to finish our experience was wonderful - welcoming staff and comfortable, cosy, well-equipped rooms. We ate the 'Valentines Menu' in the evening which was delicious and served promptly, as well as having breakfast in the bar on 2 mornings. This was... More

Things are on the up at The George after a desperate year. However there are one or two things that would really make a lot of difference. Firstly the heating. It's a hell of a building to heat but in Winter it needs its fires lit and the heating on. On many nights the heating is on but it's not... More

Ignore any review prior to August 2013. Linda and her family only took over in July last year and have re-created a truly warm and inviting village pub environment. The standard menu is small but real "pub grub" and there are always a number of daily specials available. There are always a number of locals propping up "compost corner" which... More

I have family in Chardstock and have visited the pub on a few occasions over the past couple of years. I have to admit that my previous trip to the George was very poor. Bad food and many other problems. The Pub was taken over by Linda and members of her family 6 months ago and what a transformation. I... More

Visited here whilst on holiday and it was good beer, friendly service and nice food. All at a reasonable price too. Will be back when in the area. May even stay here as a good value for money option for short break.
