When planning our visit to the Island, I booked 3 nights at eastern end of the Island (Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge) and 2 nights at the Wilderness Retreat at the western end. The Retreat has a rustic feel to the place being made of timber which fits well into the wilderness theme amongst the bush. The main buildings are arranged... More

I stayed here for 9 nights due to work commitments in the area and was glad to leave. Firstly the positives, some of the staff were very good and tried hard. Unfortunately the negatives are far more prevalent. I would start by sacking the cleaners. The rooms are poorly cleaned and after staying there for 6 nights I asked at... More

We had a great stay at this venue where management were exceptionally helpful. Perfectly named, it is set in the bush, with animals all around yet good accommodation with an excellent restaurant and friendly staff.

We gave this place the benefit of the doubt and returned for a third visit after our first visit with Adelaide friends was OK, and second with overseas friends because of the situation near the national park. We had dinner in house which served a less than average steak (seemed to have been tenderised). The accommodation is such that the... More

There aren't a lot of options near Flinders Chase (besides very few in-park accommodations). Despite the relative monopoly, our stay was VERY reasonable. We stayed in the “eco-lodge,” a large building with a cavernous hallway and a spacious 1BR apartment and full kitchen. The apartment and kitchen had everything we needed, was very comfortable, and delightfully quiet. There was no... More

This is not the cheapest place to stay and you have to eat at their restaurant due to the location but overall I would say this was a very good experience. The rooms are of a good motel standard. Excellent buffet breakfast but the main reason to come here is the resident Tamar wallabies. They are so tame that they... More

Spent 3 nights at this great resort - self contained apartment, terrific restaurant and close to beautiful scenic views. Nearby plenty of wildlife - koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, goannas, and birds.

We were lucky enough to have dinner at the Retreat on our recent visit to Kangaroo Island and it was indeed a special experience. The menu has a sensible number of dishes and a no substitutions policy which deserves respect. I had the seafood medley and my partner had the vegetarian curry. I suppose I have become cynical as I... More

We didn't stay here, but only stopped over for lunch. If you're not really hungry they serve chicken with salad or for the hungry ones calamari with chips and salad. The both were very good. The surrounding area looked wild and maybe next time I would stay here

Overall I was disappointed in my stay at KI Wilderness Retreat. The hotel is looking shabby and worn and overall not worth the price paid. We booked a room with a terrace with the hopes of seeing wildlife but didn't see even a single wallaby. The staff was pleasant, the restaurant OK but if I could re-do my trip to KI... More
