We arrived on a Saturday for some lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the decor, food and service. We only had main course and both of us were left absolutely full. Presentation was great, I had venison and chorizo stew with fresh bread and veg. full of tender meat and not over powered by the chorizo, my partner had fried... More

A lovely pub in the middle of a sleepy village, we stopped buy on a Friday night and was happily told we could have a table even thow they looked very buzy. The food was amazing worth a star in my eyes considering the Clive in Ludlow has two rossette it doesn't compare at all. Every where looked spotless, we... More

We were taken by relatives (who live nearby) to try the Lion, the day after we'd been to the Riverside at Aymestry, so we were interested to see how this would compare. No contest! The Lion wins, hands down! It is a formal, modern restaurant, recently renovated after disastrous floods from the nearby river. The dining room was surprisingly empty... More

Thank you for your comments and for taking the time to review,it is really appreciated. Sorry about the CD maybe it's time to get some new music! I think when we are busy the staff might forget to notice what the music is doing! Maybe I need to appoint a DJ! More

This was one of the best dining experiences we have had for some time. Professional & polite staff from arrival to departure. The 3 course dinner would not have been out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant with service to match. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening - we will be coming again. I am looking forward to... More

My wife and I stayed here for one night with our eight-week old daughter while attending a wedding nearby. We were delighted with pretty much every aspect of service from the moment we arrived. Staff were friendly and professional and the room was spotless. Nothing was too much trouble, even when we returned from the wedding at 10.50 and ordered... More

Thank you for your review, Im so pleased you enjoyed your stay. I was interested to hear about the mysterious hum in the room at night - I can't quite work out what that might be since room 1 is above the restaurant and there are no fridges or electrical equipment in that room. I will certainly investigate and see... More

A group of us visited for lunch and were most impressed. The food was wonderful, tasted super, was well presented AND was hot. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, we were made to feel most welcome, including the children in our party. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the main courses and the home made ice cream which came in interesting flavours... More

Thank you for reviewing us, Im glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit and will be coming again soon. I will mention to the chef about the brioche dessert being a little small, I know he is careful to manage dish sizes to offer a balanced meal across all three courses and not to swamp people with food especially... When I first moved to Herefordshire some years ago people would tell me how great the Lion was and how wonderful its situation overlooking the teme and an historic stone bridge. Sadly during my time it was a huge disappointment, and the meals I had there went from disappointing to actually inedible ( a completely burnt lamb shank was a... More

Thank you for your review - its always interesting to hear feedback from locals as well as guests from further away. I agree the Lion is in a wonderful location but have myself had similar experiences prior to 2009, several years ago it was a lovely place to go and then just got progressively more disappointing. However, as you said:... More

I stayed here last month over night for a work trip and I have never been so impressed how well a small hotel can run! Staff were very friendly and attentive, remebered me from the evening before at breakfast and the food was fantastic! If I was passing through the area again I would go out of my way to... More

As above - great food, service and friendly staff in a great location - well worth a visit if you're within 30 miles to enjoy a pleasant lunch & afternoon - didn't stay here so ignore the room rating as stupid Trip Advisor won' let you submit without giving one

We were part of a group of 10 who had booked this hotel for a relaxing weekend surrounded by good walking country. None of us was disappointed. The rooms were warm, clean and very comfortable. We had both breakfast and dinner in the hotel which was exceptionally good, imaginatively presented and delicious. It was no surprise that on both nights... More
