Spotted this little pub when passing by heading for Sidmouth. So one evening decided to venture out of Sidmouth to give it a try. At first there was no parking free outside the pub on the road, so decided to turn round in the village which then appeared to have its own little car park. On arriving we had a... More

Our firrst visit since the new landlord, Tom, took over the Red Lion. We were with two friends and received a friendly welcome from Tom and the locals. We had a very enjoyable meal with a good choice of food from the menu. Our waitress was very efficient and friendly. I would recommend this pub to both locals and visitors... More

Now under new management, the Red Lion in Sidbury is a well-deserved local favourite. Warm atmosphere, great landlord Tom. Superb guest ales and ciders. Food offered Thursday to Sunday which is fresh, home cooked. We had the curried parsnip soup which was truly special, the tasty prawn cocktail and a Sunday roast to rival that of the best carvery -... More

We stayed 30 minutes and left, the smell of dog was over-powering, very tired decor, shower dribbled out tepid water. Ended up paying to stay somewhere else. We heard later that the brewery are closing it down so perhaps this explains the lack of love and attention to the rooms. It may suit some people as it is dog-friendly.

Saw reviews saying that folk couldn't get in at 5, advertised start of check-in. You should know that this is a pub which opens at 7pm BUT you can clearly see these opening times through the glass front door, along with a "Ring us" sign with their phone number. Didn't need to use my phone as the landlord answered door... More

This hotel was awful. When we arrived it was all locked up despite the fact the booking said we could come anyone after 5pm. We knocked on the door but no one answered. We went for a wonder for a bit and then came back and luckily someone heard us this time. The man who runs it was not very... More

We booked 3 rooms at the Red Lion,Sidbury and on arrival the place seemed deserted and locked up apart from a light upstairs. We rang the bell and knocked and no-one answered. The light went out and it was apparent we were going to be left stranded in rural Devon. It's only thanks to the cab driver who waited and... More

On arrival at the correct time (just after 17:00pm) we arrived at the Red Lion. It was all locked up, with the blackboard signs inside behind the glass doors, looking very deserted. I was unsure at first what to do, but I then noticed the doorbell. The landlord took a few minutes to come to the door, which left me... More

Our second enjoyable stay here. The King room was comfortable, food was good and the Otter ale was a pleasure to drink. What a pity that so few of the villagers patronise their only pub - they will regret it when the brewery finally closes it down.

We booked this B&B on the off chance and we were delighted with the place. The landlord was very accommodating and he couldn’t do enough for us. Great beer and the food was excellent. I would go again.
