Driving in the beautiful Dartmoor countryside we happened to be in Dunsford around lunchtime. The Royal Oak public house had a large car park and an impressive frontage , so we walked in. The Barmaid was eating her own lunch at one of the tables and apart from one customer the place was empty. We ordered two ploughmans lunches and sat... More

This review is devastating and I suspect will have an real impact on our future trade. I am very saddened by such a negative view of our much-loved family business. As the 'bar-maid' in question, I must apologise for having my sandwich during the lunch session. As you observed, it was very quiet and I had been working since 6... More

Two nights B&B double room with full English Breakfast £100. Rooms in converted outbuilding. Small rooms but everything you need. Plenty to eat for breakfast. Dinner on the Friday night, a decent plate of Fish & Chips for just £7.95. A warm welcome from the friendly owners. Have been before and will go again. Dunsford is on the north eastern... More

Best Friday night dinner. We didn't know about the accommodations- but we had drinks every night during our stay in Dunsford. Friday night dinner was a recommendation from a local couple. Best recommendation ever! Busy place but efficient owner and staff.

We stayed in the village in one of the cottages nearby for a week, so cannot comment on the accommodation. The pub is deceptive from the outside but as soon as we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, yes a few dogs there but all well behaved and certainly not a nuisance. We arrived on fish & chip night and... More

A wonderful, traditional country pub serving great, simple home-cooked food! Although we didn't stay overnight, we will next time! What a super place.... Animal galore and all so well kept. I wanted to take the miniature donkey home with me. We spent a delightful time in the garden - stunning views - and stayed far longer than we had intended!... More

We chose this B+B for just one night because we wanted to take our dog with us. We arrived and were offered and had a very good generous meal even though it was after kitchen closing time. Our room was a little separate outbuilding that was very comfortable with all usual mod cons. The gardens are spectacular and there were... More

The rain was tipping it down outside as we dashed into The Royal Oak today. We were met with a warm smile from the hostess (by reading other reviews, I presume this was Judy.) "Would you like the heating on?" she asked, as it was decidedly chilly for June. What a lovely welcome. We ordered coffee and then when my... More

Following a walk in the nearby beautiful Teign valley, we called in at the Royal Oak for lunch. The exterior of the building was being painted (old AA sign hanging outside), and is in a lovely setting by the church. Okay, so it's not a gastro pub, but that's not what we want most of the time and the interior,... More

The Royal Oak like many village pubs is pretty quiet in the day, but you can be sure of a warm welcome and good menu choice if you choose to visit. It is. Family friendly pub and pet friendly. So if you are not a cat or dog lover it may not be the place for you. Mark the landlord prepares... More
