Braved the Dempster Highway on the first day it opened April 2009. Road just skimmed, front drive Winnebago fishtailed precariously for most of the journey. Terrifying but fantastic.Woke up 10 minutes from Arctic Circle. Amazing experience. Hotel ok but check that there is fuel before you go. Closed during winter so food is limited.

This is the oasis on the mighty Dempster Highway going through Yukon and the Northwest Territories to Inuvik. It is a basic accommodation with a basic restaurant, but it serves the purpose. We even got Diesel there,,but needed an adaptor. It is a few km.from the Arctic Circle

Got there with a bunch of friends / photographers in March 2010. Great place to stay and good food. What else does one need a lon drive in a cold February day? Hope to be back soon, winter is great up there on the Dempster Highway!

Very simple - it's the only choice you have if you don't want to go 400 km to Dawson or 350 km to Inuvik. It is outdated, but was clean. Quite pricy (160 CAD for double) for what you get if you do not take it's remote location into account, but we spent a good night there and would certainly... More

We traveled this year from southern Ontario across Canada to Inuvik, conquering the Dempster Highway. We left our 5th wheel trailer in Dawson City (see review "Bonanza Gold") and used the truck to drive the Dempster in 2 stretches. We planned and prepared the trip carefully but were still shocked experiencing the driving conditions of the Dempster, especially after a... More

Friendly reception at this modest motel located 400 kms north of the start of the Dempster Highway......after 10-12 hours of sometimes bone-jarring driving and awesome scenery, this motel offers adequate accommodation and a restaurant which serves good basic food in generous portions (I enjoyed a rib special with firm veggies , baked potatoes, a small salad and some Yukon Gold).... First impressions of this place don't look promising but get inside and you will be pleasantly surprised. The rooms are clean and comfortable if basic with good blackout curtains to keep out the summer 24hr light. Food is plentiful and wholesome, the bar well stocked. Service is good and it's a friendly place to spend a night. Spectacular views too... More

Unless one wants to drive 500 miles of gravel road in one day, or unless one is camping, one has no choice but to stay and eat at the Eagle Plains Hotel. There could be worse things. Our room was clean, pleasant but spare. It was way too expensive but (a) it was the only game in town, and (b)... More

Having read all the negative comments, we were expecting the worst. But our stay turned out a nice surprise, so let me get some things straight: the check in was fast, we could even choose a preferred room. The restaurant & bar was in pleasant country style, the food was very tasty (chicken with rice), the service was prompt and... More

Owner was rude rude rude! We travelled up the dempster and found there was a road closure further up so stayed two nights instead of one. We had a baby and our dog. Very well behaved dog who would stay with us and laid down most of the time....there were other dogs there allowed to roam where ever they wanted... More
