Start with the staff: extraordinary: knowledgeable, kind, and attentive. Our room was a terrace room. The view was nothing to rave about, but the feel of freedom was so lovely in the old city. Bed was terrific; towels, plush; shower, good; small kitchen area, a treat; very modern and sparse, but, nonetheless warm and welcoming. I highly recommend Hotel Gault.

We picked this hotel because of good reviews and its location close to the things we most wanted to see in Montreal (especially Vieux Port and Notre Dame; it's also reasonably close to a Metro station that will get you to other sections of the city fairly easily). Our first impression of the hotel lobby and room was a striking... More

This hotel is perfect for a romantic weekend. The best feature is the incredibly attentive staff, who made us feel like we were visiting dignitaries with their level of attention and courtesy. Other pluses include the most fast/reliable wifi we've encountered, delivery of fruit and nut snacks every afternoon right at the time you get hungry, extra-long towels which my... More

Absolutely loved everything about our stay at the Hotel Gault. From the moment we stepped out of our cab, we were in awe of the beautiful, historic building. When we walked in, the front desk staff were very welcoming and their professionalism would always be present with every encounter. Our Loft room was spacious with high ceilings and a very... More

The Hotel Gault's staff might be the friendliest and most helpful I have ever encountered. They are genuinely interested in making your stay as perfect as possible. We enjoyed 3 scrumptious breakfasts (be sure to order the bacon) and our room was quiet and comfortable. The staff helped us to arrange many fun and interesting activities in the area and... More

Just had an incredible stay at The Gault earlier this week! Jordane at the front desk was fantastic and did an outstanding job of making us feel at home for our entire stay. Our room was contemporary but still felt warm and welcoming. This hotel is in a great location to explore local restaurants, Old Montreal and The Port. We... More

The HotelGault was a very pleasant find for us. Before we even arrived, the concierge was very helpful in recommending and securing dinner reservations. Our corner room was large, airy and well appointed with very comfortable furniture. A minute or so after we arrived, a cart was delivered to our room with a complimentary tray of delicious pastries and a... More

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in this lovely hotel last week. Canadians are renowned for their politeness, but the staff took that to a whole new level. Nothing was too much trouble and they were so friendly and charming. The breakfasts were great, and the room was very nice. Everything was clean and in good condition.... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
