This hotel offers one of the best locations in Old Montreal - a block from Notre Dame cathedral, spacious rooms, and superb service. Also - novel for hotels - a breakfast that is high quality and half the price of most high end hotels. We did not specify any particular room, and next time would ask for one with a... More

This is our 4th or 5th time returning to the Nelligan. It is an excellent boutique hotel located in Old Montreal. We booked the King Superior Room and were upgraded to the Petite Suite, which was lovely. This time we got a room in the back of the hotel on the 4th floor, which was very quiet (as we requested).... This is a charming little boutique hotel in an ideal location in Old Montreal. Everyone on staff could not have been nicer including the poor doormen who opened the door dozens of times during our indecisive moments! I loved the architecture and clever use of spaces with exposed walls to maintain the historic feel while being functional. There are so... More

The exposed brick in the rooms, along with the minimalist decor and lush bathrooms offer a one-of-a-kind experience. The concierges are knowledgeable, young and great at suggesting restaurants and attractions. The staff is pleasant and attentive. In the good weather there is a rooftop terrasse for wining and dining with a glimpse of the St-Lawrence. Step out the door and... More

the hotel is beautiful. it is right on a street where all of the drunks are at night so it is very hard to sleep. my sister and i had to sleep on a couch bed and the springs kill your back! we asked for another roll out bed and it never came. we asked again and finally it came.... More

We had a very good long weekend in Montreal, the hotel was very well located in the hart of the old city and the staff went out of their way to fix things out, however, the safe in the room had go be repaired, the bathroom shower was extremely noisy and the check in process took forever. Not what you... More

This is a nice hotel in a great location if you want the old town. It has pleasing decor and an excellent open-air terrace bar on the roof. We booked a junior suite which had a lovely bathroom including an upmarket spa bath but it is not a suite, just a large room. Quite pricey for what you get. We... More

We were at a business meeting and stayed two extra days in the lovely accommodations provided by the hotel. The room was spacious with all the amentities. The hotel is located near great shopping and divine restaurants. The hotel staff were very helpful and always pleasant. We spent some time on the rooftop bar-lots of fun! One member of our... More

Really wanted to give this hotel a stellar rating but found the overall corporate design of the hotel really uninspiring. There isn't much to complain about with this hotel. The room was large and very comfortable. Our bed was perfect. The bathroom was large and comfortable. The staff was helpful, friendly, bright eyed and professional. Loved the roof top bar... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
