The place was great. The staff is wonderful. The hotel is in a great location. Their exercise room is small but the treadmill was good. We were in a petite suite, #420 as I had asked for a quiet room. It was very quiet and a great size. The bed was extremely comfortable. In fact I asked to buy the... More

Excellent front desk, concierge (interchangeable); can make your stay - recommendations, tours, drivers etc. Staff elsewhere (atrium and terrace waitress, maintenance) very cordial. Stayed 3 nights; comfortable in every way. A little slow in getting the room ready the 1st day, but a boat came in and so they were very busy. Room had master bed; clean, cozy. Draw space... More

We loved thus hotel from seeing it in the brochure onwards, but being there was magical. From arrival throughout the staff were so engaged, attentive and genuine. They really made a difference. The decor and furnishings were wonderful. Very comfortable but also super stylish and chic. Delicious buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. Of our whole US/ Canada road trip... More

I surprised my wife with a ''trip down memory lane'', by booking a stay at the Nelligan where we spent our very first night after our wedding. Needless to say, the memories flooded as we spent a wonderful time again, in the very same areas ( the cozy, warm suite, the charming and well decorated bistro for a relaxing breakfast...).... More

My wife and I just spent 3 amazing days/nights at the Hotel Nelligan in Montreal. We have traveled all over the world and this was our favorite hotel experience ever. Incredible service makes this hotel stand out: from the concierge (Melannie) to the front desk and bar staff I can only give my highest compliments. The location in old town... More

We had a wonderful time at the hotel. It was perfect in every way. In the heart of the Old City. " so convenient to everything." The employees were knowledgeable and so very NICE. They arranged for us to have a driver and tour of all of Montreal and booked a wonderful restaurant "Bevo " for us to enjoy. In... More

My wife and I had a great stay at this well located hotel in Old Montreal. The staff was very attentive, the room comfortable and very well appointed, and the breakfast delicious. There is a patisserie around the corner (Maison Christian Faure) that had some of the best croissants we have ever had.

My husband and I normally go to the rooftop located on top of Hotel Nelligan and our last visit was nice as usual BUT when my husband ordered beer, he received a chipped beer mug. Obviously for his own safety, he advised our waitress and she was happy to change the mug glass for us. When she brought back the... More

After a wonderful meal elsewhere, we opted to save room for desert and make our way over to the Hotel Nelligan. It was lovely - creme brûlée was just right and the lobby/restaurant area were buzzing with people. Checked out the rooftop bar area - looks great and lively (will definitely add to my "to do" list for the next... More

The Nelligan is a charming hotel, with exposed brick walls, and beautiful woodwork. We were told by a friend to request one of the corner rooms, and we did. It was delightful. It overlooked the street scene, and had a wonderful fireplace in the sitting area. The bed was divine, and blinds and drapes shut out the noise at night... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
