We were at the Phillips for a long weekend in mid-August. We had a two bed suite. The suite was HUGE and had a great set up. The furnishings are not super slick. Somewhat drab fabrics, but nice enough (and not worn/stained). The 1 1/2 baths made it awesome for the three of us to get ready in the morning.... More

I had a wonderful suiteat a reasonable price. Clean and comfortable. The rooftop terrace was great for getting a little Sun or relaxing at night with a perfect view of downtown Montreal. The staff were most gracious and professional. Everywhere I went in downtown Montreal was within a mile walk. A stroll through the Square led to St. Catherine St.... More

I will start by saying there is not one bad thing I could say about the Le Square Phillips. This was my first time in Montreal and this hotel was picked due to the full kitchen. We were so pleasantly surprised by the room, the view, the location, the staff, etc etc. It is so close to all the shops... More

Chose this hotel based on friend's recommendations and trip adviser ratings, and it did not disappoint.Great downtown location. Within walking distance to great restaurants and Old Montreal. Great service. Concierge was extremely helpful with recommendations. We booked a one bedroom suite and it was the largest room I've ever stayed in!!! Rooms are clean and comfortable. Very comfortable beds (mattress... More

I can never think of a good subject header for a review but I think this one it's a pretty accurate reflection. For the price you'd be hard pressed to find a better hotel in central Montreal. It's ideally situated for shopping, restaurants, the Old Town. Being able to have a suite with a separate room was a real boon... More

Just got back from four nights at this hotel. It was a great place. Huge rooms with full kitchens. One of the biggest "rooms" we have ever had in a hotel that was not a suite or an upgrade. High ceilings, immaculately cleaned and maintained. The only negative was the "continental breakfast." Definitely the week spot for an otherwise great... More

We stayed only 2 nights because the mattress was too hard for one of us, but otherwise our experience was wonderful. I'd like to make a special shout-out to Sebastian, the concierge; he was very accomodating. One rainy day, we asked for umbrellas from the front desk. They gave them to us. They gave room service and housekeeping is exceptional.... More

Very happy with my stay! The hotel is a repurposed building with large, quiet, beautifully appointed rooms with a modernist aesthetic to fit its past life. Full kitchenette and a nearby grocery store adds to the comfort as well. The location is safe and excellent for walking to many of Montreal's landmarks and shopping areas and the bus stop for... I just want to add a little balance to the raves people are writing about this hotel. Yes, it's clean. Yes, the rooms are huge. And, yes, the WiFi is good and the staff is pleasant. But, c'mon, the hotel is furnished like a Holiday Inn, with a lobby that could be the entrance to a class B office building... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
