This is an update to my 2009 review of this hotel. It has huge rooms, full kitchen with plates, pots, etc. The pool is quite small, but adequate. There are plenty of clean towels available. There is a laundry room near the pool, the machines use 2 loonies each. The lebanese restaurant nearby is gone, it is now a sushi... More

Le Square Phillips is conveniently located in Downtown Montreal, just a block from the subway. Lots of nearby places to grab food. Hotel has lots of practical amenities - continental breakfast, wi-fi, laundry room, gym, and rooms have kitchens. Practical, not posh.

I lived in this hotel for two days in my stays in Montréal, and had a very good experience. Le Square Phillips Hotel has a very good location (few steps to Catherine St.), friendly receptionists, and a huge room space (quite impressing~ they also provided refrigerator and kitchen wares) with a big comfortable bed. Even though the price is not... More

I went to Montreal for a few days to attend a hockey game and do some sight seeing. During my hotel search, this hotel came up as one of the most affordable in the downtown area. I am very happy we chose to stay here. It's a few blocks away from the Bell Centre but definitely close enough walking distance.... More

Immaculate Hotel from A-Z. We were a family of 4, we drove 6 hours from New York and had a tour scheduled at 1p.m., check in was at 3 p.m. I did call in advance asking if the room can be ready, so we can freshen up and leave to the tour at 1p.m. Needless to say the room was... More

This hotel is in a perfect downtown location. It is close to shopping, restaurants, McGill University and the Bell Centre. We stayed 3 nights leading up to Easter and the staff were welcoming and friendly-especially as we were there during the protests and another accident outside of the hotel. We had a huge suite which had more than enough room... More

We stayed at Le Square Phillips Hotel & Suites for two nights. It was a perfect location because it is right downtown. We had a little bit of trouble to find the location but when you realize that you can get to it by taking Boul. René Levesque Ouest and that Frère André and Square Philips is the same street... Our room was simply gigantic, but a lot of it was empty space, both horizontally and vertically (very high ceilings). There was a full kitchen area with a table for four, which was a nice touch, but with this much space I would have like to see some more furniture. The room was very clean and well maintained. The bathroom... More

This hotel was amazing. For someone who's used to the simple hotel rooms where you watch tv in bed, and everything's cramped. This room was incredible, almost too much for a guy like me. Full kitchen, spacious livingroom, large comfy beds, TWO bathrooms! and all that situated in the downtown core, close to a very nice subway system. When I... More

I selected this hotel for a five-day stay in Montreal because of its proximity to the Montreal Convention Center, where my granddaughter would be competing in the World Irish Dancing Championships. To be sure I had called in my reservation directly and was told that it was a 20-minute walk away. It turned out to be 15 - even better.... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
