We are spending three days in Montreal and this hotel was the best choice for us. It is like staying in an Art Gallery. Beautiful place , excellent and helpful staff who went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The manager even offered an upgrade when I mentioned that our room was kind of small and had... This place offered all we wanted in a one-night stay. We were sorry it wasn't a longer stay. Excellent location, outstanding room in a wonderfully renovated former bank building, accommodating staff. We can comfortably recommend it.

We were pleasantly surprised at what a great location this is. Everything you are likely to want to see is within walking distance and you can return to the welcoming and friendly hotel to relax afterwards. Plenty of choices of places to eat - very important when you have very fussy children ( they absolutely fell in love with Five... More

This hotel was perfectly situated for us. It was close (but not too close) to Place Jacques Cartier and all the tourist cafes and venues (easy walking distance). We also walked to the Montreal Jazz Festival venues. The room was great and the staff were absolutely outstanding. Several good restaurants nearby (Holder Restaurant on McGill was particularly good).

Our stay occurred Aug19-21, 2015. Found L'Hotel on Tripadvisor and booked it via the Hotel site as a 'safety net' lodging while we pondered our choices. Decided to keep the 2-night booking and were VERY glad we did! (Also worth noting that the hotel site offers a "secret" discount....definitely worth it!) Staff are friendly and attentive, and the 4th floor... More

My partner and I and two friends were vacationing in Montreal for 4 nights and then on to Quebec City for 3 nights. I selected this hotel for a variety of reasons and was not disappointed. We stayed in a corner King Suite room and the picutres and description of this room did not let us down - the room... More

We absolutely loved our visit in Montreal. One of the great highlights was the Super Cool Hotel we fortunately selected by using TripAdvisor. Walking into a Lobby with an original Warhol and a Joan Miro collection is never a bad thing. We actually took the stairs so we could see all the Vintage Autographed Movie posters. Every turn and corner... More

We stayed two nights and I would recommend L Hotel, with a few minor caveats. Pros: Nice rooms with very high ceilings that made them feel even larger than they were. Great location, interesting decor, nice and helpful staff. Cons: It was very loud. Some of the noise was unavoidable -- traffic, nearby construction, people walking by after a late... More

This funky boutique style hotel is in a fantastic location for downtown as well as being in Vieux Montreal. We walked everywhere so easily. Spacious room. Comfortable bed. Fabulous artwork all over the walls and sculptures in the lobby. We felt privileged to stay here - quirky and fun

If you like visual art at all, then you should book this hotel if you need to be in Montreal. Everything on the property is a work of art, from the art nouveau bar to the furniture to the pop-art pieces hanging in the rooms and in the hallways. Staying here is like going to a fine art gallery and... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
