Very arty place with amazing location right in the old town (the place you want to be!) Great kitchen facilities with loads of free spices if you fancy cooking or easy access to loads of restaurants if you want to eat out. We stayed in a four bed room which I would recommend as it was very comfortable and was... More

We stayed in the family room with kids and it was great. Friendly staff and fun funky environment. Great backpackers in a great location. Breakfast is included with the family room, which is nice (breakfast is minimalist though).

The atmosphere was incredible, the location superb and the staff were second to none. I especially enjoyed the original, local artwork displayed throughout. The hostel was truly a joy to visit. I truly felt like part of the family. Merci Auberge Alternative for the memorable visit to Old Montreal!

This was the worst hostel I have ever stayed at. The lady at the desk seemed nice at first and helpful, until some complaints were made and then she was uninterested in helping. The showers were cold, and the bathrooms were disgusting. They had shut off the water and did not inform anyone. The rooms were freezing cold. We were... More

It is quite rare that our customers leave our hostel unpleased. I'm sorry about the experience oyu had, sounds like a conflict of personality between you & someone from the staff we had back then. As the new owner since the last few months, I can tell you that our present team works really hard to make sure everything is... More

Looking to escape the 'typical' hostel full of obnoxious, drunken tourists I chose to stay here. I was delighted when I arrived to see awesome art filling the walls, a comfortable homey common room/kitchen and greeted by relaxed, friendly, helpful staff. I stayed for a week in the 20 person dorm (sounds like hell but was actually really pleasant) everything... More

Its a good hostel with very friendly environment. I liked the 6bed rooms (green one). It's near metro station and there's a lot of attractions nearby. Prices are fair and people from reception are very nice. You can rent a bike if you want to know Montreal using ciclo-roads.

I enjoyed a lot the open-style reception / kitchen / common area. Good vibes. Oh, and of course the free coffee and tea. I'm really interested in coming back here next time I stay in Montreal. Thanks for a nice stay

I avoided the hotel stay and chose this place to meet other travellers and locals. Great vibes with abstract art and origami everywhere. The staff are excellent and very helpful. Also, a plus point I must add is that they are very environmental and keep advising guests of this view by placing animated posters everywhere.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
