We spent a week in Montreal and the hotel St. Paul was base camp. The hotel is located nicely on the edge of the Old Town; just north of the old port/park and the spa Bota Bota, a few blocks west of the original settlements of Montreal and steps away from its historic past, just south of the modern half... Beautiful, elegant building flanked by two restaurants. We requested a high floor and were given a room on the top 10th floor, facing the clock from the opposite building. Room was fine, stark, very minimalist, but also very quiet. In their venture to be artistic there was this acrylic cube on the bathroom counter which enclosed the soaps, shampoos, and... More

The hotel was nice enough. The hallways are very dark with red lighting which was a bit odd but the rooms are bright. Location is on the edge of old Montreal but it's a short easy walk to get anywhere in the area.

Dear Westcoastcutie, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience on TripAdvisor. We are glad you found our hotel to be nice. Our hallways are perhaps darker than most but it is to induce calmness on the floors. It also creates an impressive contrast with our bright rooms. It is great to know you have enjoyed our... More

I have stayed in this hotel the last two times I have visited Montreal. It's in Old Quebec, but in the less touristy section (touristy part is a few blocks away but it's nice to be a bit out of that). Great restaurants close by and a fantastic bakery (Olive and Gourmando). I find the service here excellent and the... More

We had a 5day meeting in the Hotel St.Paul, it was very successful - we enjoyed our stay and experienced an excellent organization and service from the hotel. It is located in walking distance to the old harbour Vieux Montreal, several good restaurants and most of the main sights.

We selected this hotel based on a recommendation from a former local. It was definitely convenient to old Montreal and in a nice part of town. The rooms are small - they did not think through our group reservation giving the smallest room to a couple and the slightly larger room to the single. However, the rooms were adequate enough.... Great location for the Old Port, which is exactly what we were looking for. Walking distance to all the bars, restaurants and sights that the Old Port has to offer. Check-in was friendly and efficient. The room was spacious for a city centre hotel. Two robes provided, which of course is the way it should be when a room is... More

We stayed here for a weekend in June. It is right in the heart of the city, walking distance from the old port and old Montreal. Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
