Loved the hotel... location was perfect... and so were the staff. Plus got an amazing upgrade to a suite! Would highly recommend. Easy to walk to downtown and to the old town and to the water. The breakfast was fresh and healthy. I didn't check out the restaurant but it looked good.

I love staying in unique boutique hotels - but I have to confess I don't like being overcharged for the 'experience' when it doesn't quite live up to its promises in promo materials. For the same price (or most likely less) I could stay in a brand name hotel and at least know that I will most likely get what... More

First time stay and would for sure go back. Great bar. Had a room with a fireplace that we used as it was a cold night. Front desk staff were very knowledgable of the area. Close to some great shopping and restaurants. Can walk to just about anyplace.

This was a very comfortable hotel, well located for the family gathering I was in Montreal to attend as well as easy access to the old city. Quite modern/urban in design though not always practical e.g. lovely sofa in the suite but its sides were so high we could not use end tables to set a drink on without standing!... More

Dear SABL09, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on TripAdvisor with us. We are glad to know you have found your accommodation comfortable. Our own designers have been in the process of changing some furniture and we are sorry the side tables weren't functional. We have advised the department to verify the rooms and rectify this... I stayed here from a Friday to Monday over Memorial Day weekend. While the elevators and hallways may have been dark, the room was huge and had a giant window and a huge tub! Really comfortable. One of the receptionists was able to help me book a show and even had a promo code discount he'd picked up in the... More

Dear Katiemilr01, Thank you for the kind words regarding the Hotel St Paul. It is great to know you have enjoyed your stay with us. The elevators and hallways are dark to induce calmness on the floors and keep the noise down for other guests. Also, they make quite a contrast with our bright rooms and adds to the "wow"... More

I admit I found Montreal's hotel options somewhat problematic: either hotels are in the downtown business district, which is convenient but lacking in much atmosphere, or they're in the thick of Vieux Montreal, and charge commensurate rates. The Hotel St. Paul hit a sweet spot, being just south of the more touristy blocks of Vieux Montreal, but with plenty of... More

Hotel St. Paul is a lovely hotel situated in Old Montreal. While the beautiful architecture is classic, the interior is a simple and modern. The concierge, valet and even the cleaning lady was just a pleasure to deal with at all levels.

We were really impressed with this Hotel. The staff were delightful and most helpful, the décor and ambience better than average for this class of hotel, lovely location in the Old Town and certainly a great improvement on The Radisson Blu that we had stayed in in Philadelphia. I would stay here again!

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
