I booked a room for one night and, for the price and location, it was OK, no more. Close to a lot of good restaurants on St-Laurent and Laurier Street. The room and bathroom were very clean but the place really needs to be revamped, specially the carpet. My room was on the St-Laurent blvd side and was very noisy;... More

Its not a hotel, its pension. A low quality pension! very small. We had our private 3pc washroom. In the website, it has wonderful pictures, but fake pics! The rooms are small, old, not good quality beds, noisy, no TVs, and no parking, you have to feed the meter for your car to park on the street. Above a caffee,... More

The place is above an café. The noise from the café ends by midnight and wasn't that hard. But the chatting people outside (not streetside) kept going on till 5 in the morning. And we're loud. The beds are also old with thin pillows. Wouldn't recommend this place. Neighbourhood is really great.

Hotel very small. One shared bathroom and one shared toilet. Bad smell all around it. In the website, it has wonderful pictures. The rooms are small, bad smell, old and small TVs, and no parking, you have to feed the meter for your car to park on the street. I don't want to say more, I just want to say,... More

Now, I'm going to star by saying, plain and simple, if the idea of staying in a cozy inn located two floors (of stairs) above an amazing cafe with easily the coolest staff of people you will find in Montreal is not what you're interested in, then this is not the place for you. We stayed here in July (2013)... More

We booked Pensione Popolo as a cheaper option to rest up for a few days after our long journey from London - it had good reviews and was in an interesting part of town. We were not prepared for how small and basic it is. It was clean but boy was it small, especially for a family of 4. And... More

Chose this place as an alternative to either an expensive downtown hotel or a cheap (but loud and dirty) hostel. I knew nothing about the neighborhood but saw that it was relatively close to downtown (and very near a metro stop) and was surrounded by lots of bars and restaurants, and the price of the place couldn't be beat. I... More

I know cheesy title, but you should know about this. As the incident would go, our car, my husband and I's, was stolen in Montreal. Apparently it's an unspoken big thing for cars traveling from the USA. Read all the way at the end for my Car Warning details. First I would like to talk about the hotel. The staff... More

This is like a youth hostel, valid for 20$, but not worth the 88$ we paid. No clean, no towels on the room, no elevator (and 3 floors of narrow stairs, we were suffering with our suitcases), noisy, 40min walking from the historic centre or shopping areas, no reception. We only liked the bar downstairs, but you only can pay... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
