This hotel was recommended by one of the employees at THE YMCA downtown Montreal, since I had to do a 2 full day workshop there. We were so grateful for the tip to book online, since it was slightly even cheaper to book online. The hotel was very clean, very safe (your room key was the only way to ENTER... More

We stayed 2 nights at the Ambrose and could not have been more pleased. Our room and bathroom were very neat and clean. The Ambrose is located on a quiet street in downtown Montreal. You can find anything nearby. The staff (morning and evening) was always charming and always willing to answer any questions you may have as to restaurants,... More

Less than 5 minutes from Peel station and on the outskirts of the Old Town so quieter than a lot of hotels in the local area. The beds were comfortable and the room was spacious. There are some things which I would bear in mind before booking here; the first is that there is no lift. We were on the... More

In short, yes the hotel is in need of a lick of paint in some areas, and breakfast wasn't of a huge variety. However: 1) room was massive, plenty of sockets, bed comfy and ensuite a good size 2) wifi was strong even on the top floor 3) the layout is quirky and unique 4) all staff were friendly and... More

I stayed 3 nights with my daughter during March break. We had a room with a queen bed and a pullout couch. The bed was very comfortable. The room was quaint with plenty of room. The shower was good. The breakfast included was good with eggs, potatoes, cereal, yogurt, fruit, coffee, juice and toast. It was a short walk to... More

We stayed here because we were catching a Montreal Canadiens game; the Bell Center is only 1km away, so we could walk to it. The price for our room was only 69.00/night and the hotel offers a reasonable continental breakfast at no charge. The beds are extremely comfortable. The staff were friendly and were proficient in French and English. On... More

I stayed at this hotel several times and found it left a lot to be desired. It is ok if you are on a tight budget but othewise better to look for a place elsewhere. Their housekeeper is a very uptight rude character and kept hanging around me and leering at me everytime I was there. They serve the same... More

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at Hotel Ambrose. It was in a great location, close walk to everything. It is an older building and has a lot of character. The room was furnished nicely and bed was really comfy. A basic breakfast was included which was a plus! The hotel was really quiet for a great night sleep.... More

In my opinion the fundamental purpose of a hotel is a convenient spot to have a good sleep. Hotel Ambrose fits the bill precisely for those who want that on a budget. None of this sheet-fleece-bedspread nonsense I've come to expect from less-expensive hotels. Ambrose has luxuriously comfy mattresses, soft puffy duvets, and an extra serving of big cuddly pillows.... More

Much better than a chain hotel, the location is a short walk from the best part of Montreal. The building has an old neighborhood character, and room was far more than we needed. Staff was very helpful.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
