This location is only 5 minutes walk from either the Redpath Museum (McGill University), the Metro system, and Sainte Cathrine Street. It is only one block outside of the downtown and yet is very quiet. I stayed in the Superior room class. The bed was comfortable, there is TV, a private washroom large bathtub/shower, a desk, and a chaise lounge.... More

Provided a great location for our short visit to attend a Canadiens' game. Staff was pleasant, nice breakfast, great bed. This old house with its twelve foot ceilings offers a great glimpse of old Montreal. There were renovations underway in the building but the workmen were most accommodating.

My partner and I stayed at the Hotel Ambrose during the formula one weekend in Montreal. Our decision to stay here was the value and location. The hotel is located on a quiet street but very close to the downtown and a subway station to help travel round the city quicker. The hotel itself is quite small and access to... More

Stayed in the Superior Room. It wasn't huge, but compared to some other hotel rooms that claim to be deluxe, it was great. Spacious, comfortable, warm and cozy with a couch and large flat screen hdtv, electric fire place, private bathroom and comfortable queen size bed. Very polite and helpful staff each and every day and night. Usually a $15.00... More

This was my second time staying at the Ambrose Hotel and it suits my needs for a quiet and safe place to stay on a short visit to Montreal. Room was clean, warm and had a great tub for relaxing in after a long train ride. I would recommend staying here especially if you visit the Montreal Museum of Art,... More

No response to am email about reserved parking. Had to phone. Arrived and room we were given was not cleaned and no parking available when I had a reservation. Offered another room at 50% off to compensate. Room was very cold, need to go out for dinner while heating system did its job. Parking space was freed up. Location is... More

The room was small, but clean, the bathroom had been redone and was very modern. If you have mobility problems don't come here the stairs are very difficult. The breakfast is only available in the summer. The staff are all very accommodating and friendly.

My partner and I stayed one night at the Hotel Ambrose and would recommend it to anyone seeking simple affordable clean and comfortable accommodation. The Ambrose is an older building well situated in downtown Montreal. The reception area is small with no glitter like higher priced hotels and there is no elevator so you must climb the circular stairs to... More

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst touring Canada. The hotel is on a busy street near the shops, restaurants and the museums. To get into the hotel there were some steep steps that might prove a problem for anyone with limited mobility but besides that the hotel was very good. We hadn't reserved parking but the very helpful receptionist... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
