What a great find! We loved this little "auberge" for many reasons. First, the location is absolutely perfect withing walking distance to all the sights and restaurants in Old Montreal. The rooms are very large, clean and well appointed. This hotel is sort of like a B&B without the breakfast. I think there are 12 rooms or so. WiFI was... More

We had a great time at this hotel. The room was clean, spacious and felt very homey. Bed was firm but comfortable. You will get your own code to get into the hotel from the outside so it feels like you are going back to your own apartment in Montreal :) the location os prime, hotel is located in the... More

Auberge de la Place Royale definitely has a European feel and charm. Be warned that there is no elevator, so be prepared for steps. The room was charmingly furnished and the bathroom was spotless and large. Parking is only a five minute walk away and you can stop briefly in front to unload. One drawback--the bed in our room (314)... More

Our room was comfortable, large and clean, with plenty of space for a family of five. Parking was not too far, and we were able to walk to a great crepe place. Having access to a printer was very helpful. Will stay there again.

For the do it yourself guest, this place is it. If you don't feel the need to have someone greet you and you just want to go to your room, you have arrived. You will get a mini workout carrying your luggage up 2 or 3 flights of stairs depending on the floor your room is on. (No elevator) Room... More

We stayed 7 days at this place (2 adults + 1 toddler) and we selected the place due to the nice location and the boutique-hotel type of look. It was certainly not cheap but also not extremely overpriced (at least on paper). Upon arrival we realized that this was almost like an AirB&B situation...but without the 2nd B :-). The... More

Arrival instructions worked very well. Didn't see anybody from the hotel staff within the three days but actually didn't even need. Nice decorations in general although our room had suffered from some smaller battle - old air conditioner was ripped off from the wall and old pipes broken so part of the bathroom wall was open (nothing communicated to us... The Hotel is very cute. Our room was beautiful with exposed brick, four poster bed and sitting area. The location was perfect for us as it was an easy walk from the Via train station and very close to restaurants, Notre Dame Basilica, and the Metro station. The bed was very uncomfortable. The room could be improved if the mattress... More

This is not our first time staying here. They have won awards the last three years. It's in the perfect spot in Old Montreal. The only drawback is unlike most places they have stairs to the rooms. When bringing luggage up remember to make sure the luggage is not too heavy. We had a room out front facing the water,... More

I was very pleased with my stay in May. Our room was massive, very clean and nicely decorated, and the location was outstanding in Old Montreal. It was a bit strange not to have a reception desk, especially when our telephone didn't work and we needed help, but overall this hotel is outstanding value and I would definitely recommend it... Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
