Some might be put off by this end of St. Catherine street but the location was good, the rooms were nice, and the breakfast was delicious. However, the mattresses could use some upgrading -- squeaky and very uncomfortable.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our hotel. We have a variety of room types from budget to more boutique style rooms. We have now replaced most of our mattresses with superior quality posturpedic. All of our rooms can enjoy our much appreciated quality breakfast; however, they are included with some rates and with others they are... More

We spent two nights here at the end of a two week trip to the US and Canada with our four children, ranging from age 12 to 22. We had four rooms - 1 studio apartment, 2 budget rooms with queen bed and 1 budget room with two queen beds. The rooms (and bathroom and kitchenette in the studio apartment)... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here because of the high travelers ratings and the low price. For fun we read all the awful reviews of it from 2007 before they came under the new management just for laughs. Once we arrived it was easy to find and staying there was so cozy!! The staff was so friendly and accommodating and... More

I am pleased that you were entirely satisfied with your stay in our establishment and I will gladly share your comments with staff. Several years ago, the area was considered as a red light district. Today, it is now Montreal's vibrant and trendy entertainment and festival district, the Quartier des Spectacles. Our hotel has also undergone major renovations and new... More

We were a little iffy of the hotel as we drove to it. The section of St. Laurent it is near is not very nice and downright seedy. We were a little nervous at first as we were driving up and even more so when we saw the sex shops and bars. Then once we were on Ste. Catherine everything... More

Our water polo team chose this hotel for a ten day stay and we were very pleased with our choice. The staff made us feel like we were at home and were always helpful and accommodating for our team needs. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The location was close to China Town and Old Montreal. There are... More

My stay here was now a fortnight ago - and I was pleased to see that recent reviews - Julianna 42, Pigasus 1975, frannyzoo, etc - have, between them, pretty well covered the various very positive things I was planning to say, in response to some of the earlier and less effusive reviews. The issues of the next-door sex shop,... More

I stayed here for just one night (a week or so ago) while I was in Montreal for a conference. I've visited the city before, stayed in at least 4-5 different hotels in the area, but this was the first time booking l'Abri. I was a little apprehensive (location next to a sex shop? lots of stairs? will cheap=not clean/safe?,... More

Very satisfied! We reserved online and everything was hassle-free. The staff were friendly and courteous. The breakfasts were great! Croissant, pain au chocolat, yogurts, fruit salad, GOOD bagels, cream cheese, honey, jams, breads and toasts, hard boiled eggs, different kinds of coffees and juices. It's right at the corner of two of the busiest streets in Montreal, so don't go... More

I am pleased that you were very satisfied with your stay in our budget boutique hotel. I had the pleasure of an extended stay here in June and early July. The room was simple, yet very clean and sits very much in the absolute Ground Zero of all that is the many festivals of Montreal. It is a location without peer and at a price that cannot be beat in any sophisticated city anywhere. This hotel... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Dating back to 1876, Abri du Voyageur Hotel has been renovated in keeping with its historical character. High ceilings, bare brick walls, maple-wood floors, continental doors are reminiscent of the past and give our hotel a unique personality. Abri du Voyageur Hotel is not an impersonal, run-of-the-mill cookie factory type hotel but is part and parcel of the history and evolution of the Faubourg St.Laurent and of Montreal.Abri du Voyageur Hotel is adjacent to the Quartier des Spectacles Hotel. Each hotel is in a separate building linked by a common lobby and reception. A single entry serves both hotels in a 4 storey centennial building. All our rooms and studios are equipped with an air-conditioner and cable television. We also offer free wireless internet for all our guests.A friendly professional staff and a warm ambiance offers you a welcomed refuge in the midst of the hustle and bustle of downtown Montreal. Relax in our ‘hotel de charme’ and visit by foot Montreals’ boutiques, cinemas, restaurants, museums, art galleries, sport events, shows, bars and discothèques. Metro St.Laurent ( subway station) is less than a block from the hotel and will bring you in 10 to 15 minutes to those few sites not in walking distance ( ex. Doré Beach on the St.Lawrence River, Mount Royal, the Botanical Gardens, the Biodôme, the Casino of Montreal). What a dream location! ... more   less
