The room was slightly small for a 4 bed dorm but the other facilities partially made up for it.

I stayed here with some friends in a 3 bed dorm for a few days. I think it is a good hostel overall, but I have stayed at better. The thing I liked least about the hostel was probably that you couldn't open the windows in the dorms. I think it is a safety thing but it seems unneccessary and... More

So HI Montreal. Well to start with they booked the wrong dates and charged my card a fee for a no show 3 months early! The location of the hostel is its main benefit - its smack bang in the heart of town - with a Car rental place just across the street. They offered many services and trips out,... More

My friend and I visited Montreal for spring break and staying in a private room in the this hostel. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean. My only complaint about the room was that the mattresses weren't very comfortable but overall it was a good experience. I went on the pub crawl that the hostel sponsored and... More

I loved this hostel! I stayed in a room with 3 other women, all friendly. While the bathroom wasn't really the nicest or cleanest, the rooms were great considering the price. The location was excellent, though you must be prepared to walk more than a few blocks, particularly if you are planning to stay here during the Montreal Jazz Festival.... More

I stayed at Hostelling International Montreal in November 2009. The staff is extremely friendly, and the hostel itself offers lots of useful amenities (pay phones, laundry, larger lockers to rent, and internet access at $3CAN/hour). The dorm rooms themselves are tiny with bunk beds, but they offer the basics: in-room lockers, a place to shower and a place to sleep.... More

We stayed here for a few days a few years ago. On our recent second trip to Quebec we stayed here again while in Montreal. The hostel is central enough and close to a metro stop which can be connected with two buses to the airport if you want to save $$. You can walk from the hostel to most... More

The hostel was amazing! The people working there were super friendly, there were cool people from around the world to meet and talk with. The hostel is super close to St. Catherine's street (lots of great shopping!) and a 5 minute walk to the Bell Centre (lots of great concerts, we saw No Doubt while we were there!) The bar... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
