I stayed here at the end of a trip round Canada and this is and OK hostel with a decent bar and nice food. However the dorm rooms were lacking in facilities, not the light and plug next to each bunk as there had been in other hostels. Though for the price that was OK. My biggest problem was that... More

Booked for 1 night at this place for my visit in Montreal. It seems they had some renovation going on (on the outside only). The staff were friendly but however I was disappointed when I went in and they told me that there was an extra $5 charge for non-members (which I wasn't aware of when i booked). Since I... More

Bonjour ! Thanks for taking the time to leave your review online. We do try to be as transparent as possible regarding our pricing policy though it is sometimes difficult depending on the online travel agency. That being said, it is our responsability to be as clear and transparent as possible regarding our membership rate and in this particular case,... More

Disappointing location. For travellers hoping not to be in your typical downtown construction zone with not many sights around, this hostel is not for you. The hostel itself was just simple, not impressive and needs some sprucing up. Less than average bar. Pillows were terrible. The staff were quite friendly & helpful though, and the Metro is near by.

Bonjour and thanks for taking the time to leave your review online… Obviously, we did not manage to be that blast we promise to be for all travelers coming to stay with us… My apologies for it! I suppose we should have done a better job at informing you on what is around the hostel, as we are at walking... More

Good hostel. The location was quite good, very close to downtown, walking distance to shops and quite a few nice bars and restaurants. After arriving at the train station, it's easy to get a bus down to hostel but I walked and it only took maybe 10 minutes. Easy. Rooms were clean and had a quality bar downstairs which is... More

My friends and I had a music show at the Bell Center, so we went at the Hi-Montreal for one night. Negative points: the employee at front desk was struggling with her french (we are all french-canadians) & I would have appreciated a little music background in the kitchen/bistro place in the morning (lack of ambiance) & the pillow very... Bonjour! Great to know that you had a good time with us. Most of our team members are bilingual, native French Canadians, so the quality of French should not be much of a problem. That said, we also work with a bunch of volunteers from around the world.. it gives a great vibe to the hostel, but their French may... More

Maybe staying a day or two at this hostel could make sense if you are travelling through Montreal as the building is well located and is kept in relatively good shape. But the staff can act ridiculous and harsh actually. I was cooking pasta and it boiled over as I had left the kitchen for like 4 minues, and by... More

The staff at HI montréal are among the best I have ever experienced throughout the world. The downside, it's cheap enough that anyone can afford it. I.E the homeless, common area after 5pm was full of seedy old men, if you're personally worried about private space then maybe look else where. the room I stayed in included a drunk and... More

Hi and thanks for the really nice word regarding the team! As for the homeless guy, some people may be a little «marginal» in their personality, but I can assure you that all our team is dedicated at offering a clean, safe and friendly atmosphere to make everyone experience the best of what Montréal has to offer! Au Revoir! Nic,... More

I needed a cheap stay near the aeroport. So I found this hostel, it was 20 min from the aero port with express bus. The guy at the check-in was friendly. And the room was clean and comfy, I was really surprised, I stayed in different hostels in Montreal and this one is by far the best. I stayed in... More

Hi and thank you greatly for the awesome feedback! As for the homeless people, I do not have anything against them, far from it, but I would like to highlight the fact that we essentially are a backpacker hostel, meant and run by, for and with backpackers…! Come and give us a try, we’re fun, clean and effective at making... More

This hostel was one of the cheapest I stayed in for $20 per night. I highly recommend Montreal for a cheap getaway. The hostel is right in the heart of the city near to everything and the subway station.

It's an alright place to stay, cheap and great location! Provides the basic necessities. Water always hot, always food in the morning, staff great, helpful and accommodating. Bar area and kitchen always clean. Rooms are basic and nothing fancy. If you want a place with a soft comfy bed and an exceptionally clean bathroom you need to stay elsewhere. Stayed in... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
