Good hostel. The location was quite good, very close to downtown, walking distance to shops and quite a few nice bars and restaurants. After arriving at the train station, it's easy to get a bus down to hostel but I walked and it only took maybe 10 minutes. Easy. Rooms were clean and had a quality bar downstairs which is... More

My friends and I had a music show at the Bell Center, so we went at the Hi-Montreal for one night. Negative points: the employee at front desk was struggling with her french (we are all french-canadians) & I would have appreciated a little music background in the kitchen/bistro place in the morning (lack of ambiance) & the pillow very... Maybe staying a day or two at this hostel could make sense if you are travelling through Montreal as the building is well located and is kept in relatively good shape. But the staff can act ridiculous and harsh actually. I was cooking pasta and it boiled over as I had left the kitchen for like 4 minues, and by... More

The staff at HI montréal are among the best I have ever experienced throughout the world. The downside, it's cheap enough that anyone can afford it. I.E the homeless, common area after 5pm was full of seedy old men, if you're personally worried about private space then maybe look else where. the room I stayed in included a drunk and... More

I needed a cheap stay near the aeroport. So I found this hostel, it was 20 min from the aero port with express bus. The guy at the check-in was friendly. And the room was clean and comfy, I was really surprised, I stayed in different hostels in Montreal and this one is by far the best. I stayed in... More

Hi and thank you greatly for the awesome feedback! As for the homeless people, I do not have anything against them, far from it, but I would like to highlight the fact that we essentially are a backpacker hostel, meant and run by, for and with backpackers…! Come and give us a try, we’re fun, clean and effective at making... More

This hostel was one of the cheapest I stayed in for $20 per night. I highly recommend Montreal for a cheap getaway. The hostel is right in the heart of the city near to everything and the subway station.

We like to see ourselves as the best hostel, in the best city, in the best country in the whole world... But we would not say it out loud… way too risky to sound pretentious! I all cases, I am happy to hear that your had a good time with us! :) Nic, hostel manager More

It's an alright place to stay, cheap and great location! Provides the basic necessities. Water always hot, always food in the morning, staff great, helpful and accommodating. Bar area and kitchen always clean. Rooms are basic and nothing fancy. If you want a place with a soft comfy bed and an exceptionally clean bathroom you need to stay elsewhere. Stayed in... More

I stayed at this hostel a few times and it seems to be getting worse. They have a lot of homeless folks staying there some of whom are very strange. In one dorm room I stayed in I heard a woman in there screaming at 3 in the morning and another woman had an alarm clock radio which went off... More

Well… it clearly looks like that we were not up to your expectations. I truly apologize for it. As a non for profit organization, we work with the travelers, for the travelers, hoping to make everyone experience the very best of Montréal has to offer. We are normally pretty good at it, but we sometimes also fail for various reasons.... More

Great hostel, in a central area of Montreal. Staff are super friendly and will give you loads of advice and information about the city. The bar area was great and activities out on by the hostel were great fun! Would definitely stay again :)

The staff were very helpful, friendly and kind. The building is huge, quiet and clean. The kitchen is well appointed and the bistro in the basement serves tasty food and cheap beer. Breakfast is stellar. Altogether a perfect place for a family to stay in Montreal.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
