Montreal has some great expensive hotels and some terrible lower priced hotels. In my experience, this hotel is unusual for Montreal in that it is both reasonably priced and quite good. On a recent trip we found the bilingual staff friendly and helpful; the room was clean, well-appointed and much larger than the usual big city hotel room. My only... More

I visit Montreal at least twice a year and for the past 4, this is the hotel I stay in when I go there. Granted, is not 5 stars, but the service has always been good, the rooms are very decent and is central location can't be beat. It is downtown and underneath is the main subway station where all... Hotel Gouverneur is conveniently located, the bilingual staff pleasant and helpful concerning the hotel itself and the city. It is a snap to get there from the Trudeau airport by bus. One can buy a singe ticket or some bargain fares for more extended use. The Berri-UQUAM but and subway stop is a short walk away and it is possible... More

Stayed here for two nights, beds were comfortable, rooms were a good temperature, staff were extremely friendly (both front desk staff and service staff). Great access to Metro transit and grocery store, with good walking to Old montreal (10-15 minutes). Shower was a little weak but rest of stay was great.

Greeted with a smile and helpful attendent. Got a great room with a great city view at an unbeatable rate. Parking is weird but manageable. Ask for a city view room on a high floor. Provide your CAA or AAA card for free breakfast.

Perfect hotel to stay at if you want to hang out in Montreal for the weekend and not have to drive. The finishes are dated but everything was clean and tidy and the rooms are a decent size. Try to be on the side facing the park as you have an amazing view of that part of the city, day... More

We recently stayed here while catching a concert at Places des Arts, a nice 15 minute walk away. For the price we paid I must say it was good value. They have a lot of rooms to fill, so as the hotel ages I am sure they offer discounts to fill them, particularly in off-seasons. They could use an update,... More

Stayed here during Reading week after a disastrous choice initially of another hotel. Had to find a room at 1:00 am and the Gouveneur was available. Thank goodness. I was very nice and had a good location for where we wanted to be.

I booked the hotel online with hotwire and only found out which hotel until after I confirmed. I then read the reviews which were a mixed bag and was left wondering. I hotel was easy to locate, had free parking and wifi. The staff greeted me in both official languages and speaking french or English was a non isssue. The... More

This hotel has been 'old faithful' for me in Montreal for years now. But only the executive floors. Location is excellent on terms of transit as it is across the street from a major metro station with interchanging lines. It is also excellent in location in proximity to Montreal's gay village. I always pay a little extra to stay in... More

Staying in The Village (Gay Village)

Neighborhood Profile
The Village (Gay Village)
The rainbow pillars of Beaudry Métro Station shepherd the way into to The Village, one of the largest hubs for gay and lesbian culture in North America. With an open layout and a congenial aura, the refurbished buildings along Rue Sainte-Catherine pay a special homage to menswear and to caffeine, with showrooms and cafes. By morning, the antiquing gems along Amherst Street are packed with collectors. An incredible party spot, The Village comes alive at night, when clubs, bars, and dance halls open their doors and the revelry is high, epitomized by the fanciful trimmings of the apropos Oscar Wilde building. From May to September, the area closes to automotive traffic, allowing restaurant terraces to pour onto the streets, creating a dynamic sense of community. Les Boules Roses, thousands of pink baubles, are hung to welcome in the festivals and celebrations, including Montréal en Arts, Divers-Cité, and the Pride Parade.
