My wife and I travel to Montreal twice yearly for Board meetings and we always stay in Auberge Bonaparte. Located very conveniently in the western part of the old city, it gives easy access to downtown shopping, the Metro, and all of the vieux port. Rooms are very clean, with hardwood floors, the windows are deeply set and have charming... More

My wife and I just wrapped up a five-night stat at the Auberge Bonaparte and if we had great singing voices we'd sing its praises from the steps of the Notre Dame church that towers just around the corner from the hotel. The staff at the Bonaparte was friendly, informative, funny -- what more could you ask. The rooms was... More

We stayed in the one suite that this hotel offers. It was larger than our first apartment! One bedroom separate from the living room has a king size bed with two very large windows that open up to the streets of Old Montreal. The living room has a wet bar with fridge (which the mini bar was all complementary with... More

The hotel is well located in old town near restaurants, museums, the piers, and just right for walking around. The personnel were very helpful, especially the Director of Marketing, Michael. The room was spacious, the complimentary breakfast was very good, and the dinner we had there was superb. We were there for three nights and would return again and would... More

We had a wonderful stay at the Bonaparte. Thanks to the front desk staff who were friendly and helpful at all times. Our room was spacious and clean and the restaurant was lovely with very good food. Montreal is a beautiful city, especially in the old port where we stayed.

We stayed two nights. The staff was very helpful with making recommendations about places to eat. The room was a little on the small side, but very cozy. There was a lot of natural light coming through the large windows. The bed was comfortable, and everything felt clean. The location is terrific, right in the heart of the old town.... More

This generally attractive hotel offered helpful check-in service (no street parking outside, so front desk female clerk quickly helped us haul in our luggage) and is well-located in Old Town, near the river and abutting China Town, so lots of good places to eat, although the front desk clerk suggested a closed restaurant to eat in on our Sunday arrival.... We started our long holiday exploring Canada at this boutique hotel and couldn't have chosen better. Comfortable, quiet and convenient for harbour area of old Montreal. A very good restaurant but particular mention should be made of friendly, efficient and oh so helpful reception staff. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst doing a driving tour of Eastern Canada. Very good location; close to Notre Dame and main square where there are plenty of places to eat. Room was spacious, fairly well appointed (although lacking space for toiletries in bathroom) but didn't really have any wow factor. No comfortable seating in the room and no tea/coffee... More

My husband and I booked this hotel for one night on July 1 (Canada Day), as it was close enough to the train station to walk, and also close enough to walk to the cruiseport. We wish we'd been there longer. The Auberge Bonaparte is a lovely little hotel in an prime location. A very decent breakfast is included at... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
