The hotel staff were very helpful and accommodating. The hotel itself is located on the street just across the way from the port so if you are doing port activities, or want to bike along the river it is wonderfully located. We stayed in a superior king room. The room itself was quite spacious and comfortable. Everything was very clean.... More

The hotel is located in the heart of the tourist district in the old city. There are numerous shops, restaurants, and attractions within a very short walk. Also, they have a great municipal bike rental system with a rack just outside in the park across the street. We rented bikes and went all over the city--a car is not needed... More

One night was enough for us. Old Montreal is fun to visit but stay in a different area. The hotel was nice but a bit noisy. We could hear another room from our room. The bed was not very comfortable. Too many other options to settle for that!

Auberge du Vieux-Port was an absolutely charming hotel and was a huge part of a WONDERFUL stay in Montreal. The staff were always helpful and happy to provide suggestions and assistance. The room was beautiful, clean, and a great place to come "home" to. The staff at Taverne Gaspar were wonderful and the food was excellent. Any time I return... More

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our four-night stay at this beautiful hotel. The hotel and Taverne Gaspar staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and fun. The hotel location in Old Port was ideal and the rooms were beautiful. Our only minor complaint was that the hotel runs on central air and was kept too warm for our liking -- ceiling... More

We stayed for three nights. This is a lovely hotel, a well restored boutique accomodation, in a charming stone building. We had a room with a river view, which made for a warm, sunny aspect. The room is well appointed and the bed was insanely comfortable so much so we overslept our first night. The rooms are also quiet. The... More

We had a lovely time on a quick getaway earlier this month. The staff were so friendly and exceedingly helpful. They really went out of their way for us. Our room was beautifully appointed and ample, the bed was great, and the bathroom was great too. We had booked the romance package and we received our champagne and strawberries as... More

Auberge du Vieux Port is expensive but worth it. We had a river front view and just loved having the windows open to breathe the fresh air and see and hear the life below, from people walking along the sidewalk and playing in the park to the clop-clop-clopping of the horse drawn carriages and, yes, the traffic. We could see... More

From the moment my wife and I arrived for our three days, they couldn't do enough for us. When we asked to change rooms to the river side, we were settled in less than 15 minutes. Would we return, we sure will. Great service, great room, breakfast was good, as was dinner. I only wish they would tell us how... More

Recently, my wife and I spent four days in Montreal staying at the Auberge du Vieux-Port. Great room, location, and service. Breakfast was superb including the best Eggs Benedict that I have eaten in a long time. The location was a five to ten minute walk to many attractions. Michael, the Concierge, was a great help. In summary, the perfect... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
