We took the ferry over to Prince Edward Island from Pictou Nova Scotia not knowing what to expect when we got there.We went to the tourist information center when the ferry landed.They suggested The Birches. Our plan was to stay only one night but we stayed 2 extra nights because of the location. The housekeeping cottages were 5 miles from Charlottetown in a very quite rural area. From our cottage we could take a short walk down to the bay.The Charlottletown area is central to most of the Island attractions. Anne of Green Gables is 30 miles away in Cavendish. The 2 or 3 bedroom cottages are simple with a small kitchen and living room. The cottages are very clean and comfortable. We paid $59. a night .for the smallest cabin Sept.29th. The owner was so friendly and stopped in and chatted for awhile giving us ideas what to do and where to go in the 3 days.The best part of the island are the people. We plan on returning for a week to see the rolling hills and farmland in the summertime... more
