I should begin by noting that I was staying at this hostel with my girlfriend and we were looking to spend a nice ten days exploring in and around Toronto. This is one of the worst hostels I've ever stayed at. I didn't find the staff very helpful at all, the kitchen was routinely packed with travellers trying to take... More

I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Planet Traveler. Our staff work hard to provide the best hostel experience possible. In order to enjoy a hostel you must make an effort to meet other guests. A good hotel provides clean rooms, security and privacy. A good hostel provides clean rooms, security and community. Our breakfast is not... More

What started out as a pleasant first day, quickly turned. I was in a mixed dorm of 6, in a room that had no heat whatsoever. The staff were absolutely vapid and actually made me cry due to how unwelcomed I felt. Be wary of shared dorms, as you will be charged extra if someone in your room stiffs them.... More

I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay at planet traveler. Your comments about charging guests extra if someone "stiffs" us are unfounded. Your review is not a fair representation of our hospitality; it has however motivated a change in hostel policy as we are implementing a code of conduct for guests. For all hostel guests to feel welcome... More

I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone travelling to Toronto. Last night was my last night staying at planet traveler which I have been living for the past 3.5months, since moving to Toronto, from October 2015 until January 2016. Anthony and his staff at Planet Traveler have always made us feel welcome since the day we stepped foot in... More

I stayed at The Planet Traveler Hostel for a total of 3.5 months upon moving to Toronto from Australia (October 2015 - January 2016) In my time here I found the staff to be friendly; helpful with ideas of sites to see, restaurants, and upcoming events in Toronto. The hostel hosts a variety of themed nights to make the guests... More

I joined the pub crawl on a Wednesday and our guy (Robin) got so drunk that he threw up in the middle of the last bar. He didn't even made it to the washroom. When I told him a couple times that he should not let the bartenders' dog eat his vomit he got aggressive, came to our table and... More

We are so sorry. This did happen. Robin is a highly respected staff member who unfortunately consumed too much alcohol on the pub crawl that night and created this scene. It is so unfortunate that it shaped your Toronto experience. We are all extremely proud of this hostel and we love to show Toronto in the best light possible. Give... More

This hostel could have been on of the best hostels I have even been to. I loved most of the staff and the atmosphere was amazing. However, Ben, an Australian that helps coordinate events and stays at the hostel, created a disastrous experience for me. He behaved in appropriately and got really pushed when he was intoxicated. To say in... More

Are you going to Toronto? Stay here. My boyfriend and I stayed in the dorms here for two nights and absolutely loved it. In addition to the free microwave popcorn, DIY laundry, and Mac computers, the rooms and common areas were SPOTLESS. The roof has the best view of the city. I thought the price was a little high but... More

I first stayed at the Planet Traveler November 2015 and thought it was great except for the bad wi-fi in the rooms and the front desk not being available 24/7. I still came back over Christmas holidays though as the hostel is very clean and modern and located in a great area. I was pleased to learn that they fixed... More

This is quite likely the best hostel I have ever stayed in. Very very clean, free breakfast till 1pm, laundry facilities available free computers and Wi-fi. What is even better are the staff. The friendliest and most helpful hostel staff I have ever met. They were always available to answer questions or provide recommendations for places to eat or things... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
