this was one of the best hostelling experiences we have ever had. the location is so accessible to all transit routes, amazing restaurants, funky shopping places and organic as well as gluten free cafes. The room itself was spacious, well lit, clean, and had great energy. The service from the front desk staff was awesome too. Well maintained, friendly and... More

We stayed here in a private room during the fall of 2014 and the spring of 2015. The management are friendly. Convenient location close to University, street cars, Kensington Market, laundromat( across the street) and a good number of cafes and restaurants Place was rundown when new owners took over last year. Now has modern lobby, kitchen, showers and bathrooms.... More

I stayed here in April 2015 and i couldnt have asked for a better place, it was perfect, i had a private room, it was very clean and modern, i had my own balcony, tv, desk and double bed. The cleaners cleaned it everyday at my request (with new linen). The staff were very friendly, Caron especially, it was a... More

I loved to stay in this hostel.its clean, modern, nice staff (Caron is amazing!), good breakfast (Milk, cereals, toast, Jam, Nutella, Coffee and tea). The location is amazing in the best street of Kensington market. I really dont understand the terrible coments here in trip advisor...because of them I chose canadiana backpackers and totally regret it (dirty, rude staff, strange People and... More

Stayed here with four friends for a night. The location was good. right close to Chinatown and kensington market. The hostel is new and clean looking. Breakfast was good, just not a lot of sitting area. My only complain was that the 3rd floor and our room had a bit of an stuffy/moldy smell.

There is a lot of potential for this hostel, but in its current state it lacks the fundamentals. My bed wasn't made when I arrived; I was simply given two sheets by the reception staff & was told to bring the dirty ones down. The room smelt very bad. It was clear that previous guests had smoked indoors and the... More

I was staying there for few weeks last winter. There were several people complaining, mostly about the fact that the management is dishonest. Was a not pleasant stay; the whole atmosphere was boring, artificial, and unpleasant. At one point I was given a dorm of 4 girls, and all the windows were nailed, so for days was not ANY ventilation;... More

College Backpackers has had quite the makeover. I've read and heard all the horror stories about this place and didn't encounter anything like that even the first time around, but management had already changed over. The new staff are actually taking pride in the hostel. The reception, kitchen, communal area and rooms have all been renovated, and how! Breakfast is... More

No worries with this place. I'd stay again in a heartbeat. It's a hostel people, get over it. Awesome location and I stayed in a private room for about 800 a month (low season mind you). 4am samosas across the street, fresh fruit, china town, balconies if you're a smoker. Everything I needed.

The location within Kensignton Market is the only thing going for this place. Booked a private room paying 90 bux a night only to find it contained literally "a bed" and "a tv". Staying in Chinatown

    Neighborhood Profile
    Chinatown
Toronto's main Chinatown has the honor of being the largest in North America. Gaping down across Dundas Street West and Spadina Avenue, the area is a wonderful medley of shops and restaurants, busy signs and bright red gates, a destination for foodie fun. Chinatown's streets are always bustling, packed with people and outdoor stalls hawking fresh produce and products. The restaurants and authentic marketplaces that shoulder in against each other display shining roast ducks and menus studded with dumplings and noodle bowls. The air is pervaded with music. different languages, and the smell of fried food and mouth-watering desserts. Chinatown's restaurants represent a broad range of fare, from traditional Szechuan and Shanghai foods, to other Asian delicacies, including some of the top Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean spots in the city. Whether you're in the mood for a sit-down tea house or a bubble tea to go, Chinatown is the spot to enjoy an exciting walk and the promise of leaving satisfied.
