College backpackers well exceeded my expectations! We booked in here for 14 nights as we were only new to Toronto so needed a base but didn't need anything too fancy. I had been looking between planet traveller and college backpackers and so delighted we went with college backpackers! Check in was simple and straight forward, full payment was taken at... More

When choosing a Canadian vacation, I decided on the 'New York of Canada', Toronto. And, just like I always do, I look for a place close to mass transit. Streetcars stop just steps from the front door. There are three doors: one to the front desk, which opens at 8am, and two to the dorms/rooms themselves. Access to the latter... More

Satisfied overall with my stay at this hostel which had a great breakfast, dorm beds which were very comfortable with a good amount of space, great wifi and a kitchen which is very new and always kept very clean. Most importantly the location is bang smack in the middle of Kensington - Toronto's funkiest, alternative scene with a zillion cheap... More

This hostel is what you pay for, it has everything you would need for travelling solo or in a small group. Rooms are clean and not too hot either, the bathrooms are small and not 5* by any means but it's good enough for what you need. I enjoyed my stay here and met people from all over, its in... More

this was one of the best hostelling experiences we have ever had. the location is so accessible to all transit routes, amazing restaurants, funky shopping places and organic as well as gluten free cafes. The room itself was spacious, well lit, clean, and had great energy. The service from the front desk staff was awesome too. Well maintained, friendly and... More

We stayed here in a private room during the fall of 2014 and the spring of 2015. The management are friendly. Convenient location close to University, street cars, Kensington Market, laundromat( across the street) and a good number of cafes and restaurants Place was rundown when new owners took over last year. Now has modern lobby, kitchen, showers and bathrooms.... More

I stayed here in April 2015 and i couldnt have asked for a better place, it was perfect, i had a private room, it was very clean and modern, i had my own balcony, tv, desk and double bed. The cleaners cleaned it everyday at my request (with new linen). The staff were very friendly, Caron especially, it was a... More

Stayed here with four friends for a night. The location was good. right close to Chinatown and kensington market. The hostel is new and clean looking. Breakfast was good, just not a lot of sitting area. My only complain was that the 3rd floor and our room had a bit of an stuffy/moldy smell.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Toronto's main Chinatown has the honor of being the largest in North America. Gaping down across Dundas Street West and Spadina Avenue, the area is a wonderful medley of shops and restaurants, busy signs and bright red gates, a destination for foodie fun. Chinatown's streets are always bustling, packed with people and outdoor stalls hawking fresh produce and products. The restaurants and authentic marketplaces that shoulder in against each other display shining roast ducks and menus studded with dumplings and noodle bowls. The air is pervaded with music. different languages, and the smell of fried food and mouth-watering desserts. Chinatown's restaurants represent a broad range of fare, from traditional Szechuan and Shanghai foods, to other Asian delicacies, including some of the top Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean spots in the city. Whether you're in the mood for a sit-down tea house or a bubble tea to go, Chinatown is the spot to enjoy an exciting walk and the promise of leaving satisfied.
