The place has a for sale sign in front; a sign that it might not be the place to go. The room we were assigned had no closet, just hooks on the wall, no windows but only a drafty door opening on a fire escape, a door to the adjoining room that did not reach the floor so the people... More

The ground-floor is actually beautiful, with Victorian-style furniture and antiques. The property itself is quite old though, and wood cringes under your feet quite bad. with exception of that, it was quite a good stay. Especially, considering that it was a single-queen room with a washroom for ~$90, and "parking ready" for a reasonable fee

Stayed in suite 1. House was warm and welcoming along with the staff. The bedroom was a little cold when we got there (November visit) but after we bleed the rad in the bedroom it heated right up. Room was clean and tidy. Breakfast wasn't 5 stars but wasn't the worst i have ever had. Upon reading some of the... More

I booked this hotel but then some of the reviews raised concerns for me. Quite a few people wrote about dirty rooms, stale breakfast, broken showers. The fact that they require to pay cash up front and do not accept credit cards also seemed sketchy. All this got me worried so I wrote the owner to see if he can... More

Well I always try to be fair in my reviews, but am really struggling to say anything good. One redeeming factor was the lovely Irish staff. A couple of days in Toronto at the end of a long holiday, a b&b break, well the web site looked ok and with a name of romantic then you think you might it... More

We booked this hotel because its location and the pictures looked charming. Unfortunately the week we were in Toronto the temperature was in the plus 30 degree Celsius and this place has no Air Condition at all. Even with a fan, it was so miserable we decided to checked out. The owner offered us a bigger room on 2nd floor... More

The website pics looked great, location seemed fine...."Let's book somewhere special" she said. Well, special it was. We looked at each other as we stood forlorn in our romantic bedroom; we looked around, we sniffed the air. We then began to plot our escape, fully aware of the proclaimed CCTV monitoring. We left a polite note, and hurried ourselves away,... More

I was very pleasantly surprised by the Romantic Mansion after reading all of the terrible reviews on Tripadvisor. Granted the place is a long shot from luxury and, despite the name, I would not recommend visiting the Romantic Mansion for a romantic get-away. The location is super, it took less than 30 minutes to walk anywhere I needed to go.... More

This is a wonderful place that is a unique one-of-a-kind century home. We loved our stay at the mansion. A special place for history and art lovers. The staff was polite and very helpful. We will come back very soon to repeat this very special place. Susan and John

My wife found the “Romantic Mansion” on a B&B website for Toronto. We were there for a conference and the place looked lovely in the photographs online. The photographer was worth every penny he or she was paid because they truly made a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. This place is dreadful. The décor, which online appeared to... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
