Nothing as such wrong with this hostel although I suppose having stayed at hostels worldwide I would have expected a bit more for the money paid but I guess Toronto is expensive. It felt distinctly average to me. And if you don't like pancakes for breakfast you're going to go hungry - there are no other options. The good bits... More

The location is unbelievable, right in the heart of the entertainment district and almost everything you will want to do in Toronto is within walking distance. However, the street is still relatively quiet. My room was extremely hot and stuffy in at night. There was airconditioning but it seemed to make a lot of noise without doing much (It was... More

I didn't really get to see much of this place I basically checked in, dropped my stuff off and went out to Khao San Road (Thai food) for some late dinner. The layout of the room was weird and sadly they had metal bunk beds that weren't the quietest to sleep in... There seemed to be a fairly active social... More

Thanks for the feedback: The hostel is in 1880 Victorian townhouses with high ceilings. It's easy to make friends particularly in the evenings when the back patio is busy. More

The wifi is intermittent, the rooms are too small with too many people in them. The wifi is intermittent. There are a number of very loud, very drunken guests. The place is a bit run down. Some of the staff are petty about policies. There is no air conditioning and the place is profoundly miserable in the middle of a... More

Thanks for the feedback – if the wifi is not working too well then we do have free computers connected to the internet for guest use. We have air conditioning throughout the hostel and in every room – if it is too hot in your room, please let a staff member know and we can adjust the temperature. We were... More

Pros: Free pancake breakfast; incredibly convenient location in the center of town; clean; comfortable; air conditioning in the rooms; clean sheets provided; very nice atmosphere in common areas. Potential cons: hostel spans several adjacent buildings and feels a bit inpersonal; wifi does not work on cell phones; tiny bathrooms and long wait for showers; busy and not very quiet at... More

Thanks for the review! Some people prefer that the hostel is spread over several buildings as it’s nice and quiet away from the common areas – we’re glad that you enjoyed your stay overall! More

I stayed in a private room back in March for 4 nights while in town for a conference. The location was fantastic...I walked to the conference center every day. Free coffee in the morning was good, but the breakfasts were pretty nasty, I must say. Some sort of hard roll or bagel, and you had to pay for butter or... More

Thanks for the feedback – we are looking into the noise issue you mentioned! Very sorry to hear about your experience with the bus tour, but we’re glad it didn’t taint your impression of the hostel. More

Booked this place last minute because I needed an extra unplanned night in Toronto and my previous hostel had no rooms available, but I'm so glad I ended up there. So much cheaper than most of the other hostels, but just as good if not better in all areas. Free lockers, WiFi and pancake breakfast, close to city centre and... More

I couldn't fault the hostel at all, I was impressed by how the hostel really makes the effort to make its visitors feel at home with the various activity evenings (quiz night, movie night etc). I found those nights to be excellent as it gives the visitors the chance to bond and socialise with fellow travellers who like me were... More

I spent there 15 days in a single room. It was very small but this often prompted me to go out and socialize with the other guests! The washrooms are clean and the kitchen is totally furnished for cooking!

It is a very nice hostel. It is clean and located in the downtown area close to bars, restaurants and other touristic sites. The staff are friendly and helpful. The hostel is like a 3 star hotel. The beds are very comfortable. There is a bathroom in each room. Breakfast is served every morning, it is delicious with lots of... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
