1. Our reservation - 3 months before our stay - was senseless. The first night (start of our trip) we got another room than approved, the second night (end of our trip, 3 weeks later) Joan, the owner, sent us to another B&B. The Verandah was overbooked - her promise after the first night, that we will get the reserved... More

The owner of this B & B seems to be too worn out to provide proper care of her guests. We were given a room other than the one reserved and when I finally got to speak to the owner, her answer was that we should be glad that we had a room! Service was next to none, room was... More

Don’t assume other reviews exaggerate – AVOID this place. If you can’t, get another one lined up for the second half of your stay. If you can’t, be firm and don’t take the owner’s nonsense. Like others, I considered finding somewhere else, but instead just avoided her. On arrival she didn’t introduce herself or provide any information about anything. She... More

My wife and I have stayed a many B & Bs from coast to coast in Canada and found The Verandah charming, well located and well worth the money. We stayed in the Loft for two nights and were very appreciative of the little fridge, skylights and windows. We also enjoyed Joan's company. She can tell a great story and... More

The rudest person we have ever met. There was no introduction just a nasty condescending words on our arrival. The only words we were able to speak were - We are the ......... and we have come to check in. Then it began and ended with her saying, "I'm glad you aren't staying here, I don't like you anyway." We... More

The hostess has few boundaries and loves to talk about herself and the trials of her life. From the reviews one can see that some people find this warm and endearing, and others find it intrusive. I'd have to say that we found it the latter. We stayed 5 days, and seriously considered trying to find alternate accommodations. Instead we... More

We spent 2 nights at the Verandah. The breakfast was very good. Our host Joan was a very fun person to hang out with. She seemed just like family and we had only just met her. It was a perfect location also. walking distance to the down town area. S & L Krebs, Marquette Michigan

We (3 of us) attended a workshop at the nearby Dalhousie University and stayed in this B&B for a week. The hostess "Joan" complained about having to get up at 7am to ready breakfasts at 7:30am so we could be at the meetings at 8am. She made us feel unwelcome - by complaining that one of us (a lady Professor)... More

This was our weeklong honeymoon, and by the time we left, Joan the owner was like a friend! Great to meet visitors from all over Canada and abroad at 8:30 breakfast. Very clean and kept-up place. Convenient and the price is a steal for Halifax.

We spent 3 nights at the Verandah as part of a multi-destination, East-coast road trip. Since we had already been on the road for some time by the time we made our way to Halifax, the Verandah had the perfect combination of amenities: on-site, complimentary parking, wireless internet, and a location close enough to downtown that we could park the...
