Don't expect to pull your camera out to take pictures of your awesome room. Its a wonder it is so expensive to stay here, yet the hotel be so outdated. I'm lucky I am young and can still tolerate a cheap hotel. The exterior of the hotel reminds me of SOVIET architecture of the 1960s. more

The first 4 or 5 floors of this hotel are completely blocked off at the elevator for construction. From the outside the hotel it looks like a DMZ with most the balcony railings removed for construction and it needs painting badly. Parking costs $5 or $10 CAD/day but I don't understand why they charge because the gates are open and... more

I don't know why others had bad reviews for this hotel, but we had a fine time there. We received a good deal online and stayed for three nights. The room was clean, modern, and quiet, and the rec facilities were great. The location was great, and there was plenty of free parking on the street so we didn't have... more

I booked a room at the Citadel because they seemed to have the best winter rates in the downtown Halifax area at the time. I feel I got a great deal on the room with my CAA discount (under $100 & free parking). We arrived at check-in time but they didn't have the Queen room I had booked ready for... more

having read some of the reviews before leaving for our break I was pleased to find that the Hotel was not as bad as I expected. Yes the rooms were in need of a make over and yes the outside of the building looked cold and gray but we had an enjoyable stay. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, the staff... more

I have very mixed feelings about how to review this hotel, as our experience was wonderful thanks to a super nice evening manager, but it could have turned out bad. We booked this hotel through priceline for a great price, then were greeted by a room in the back tower that was straight out of 1977. The king bed was... more

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I was disappointed to read your comments regarding the condition of the bed in your guestroom and your overall impression of the room as this is not indicative of the hotel's standards that we pride ourselves in when it comes to guest satisfaction. We sincerely thank...

My company regularly uses the Citadel to deliver programs. The new suits and classrooms are both large and comfortable. They had everything you need at very good value comparatively. Not to mention that their catering was first rate. I only use the Citadel because they go out of their way to make sure things are as I like it. You... more

We were at the hotel for my daughters wedding, the reception and ceremony were both held there, the service we received was great. We also had family members from out of town stay there and had no complaints. We were there during Hurricane Bill and the power did go off and was off for several hours the staff made many... more

The room we stayed in was on a middle floor facing the main road. The hallways was very welcoming and well kept. The room itself was old. The beds were terribly uncomfortable. The mattresses were worn beyond belief. The bathroom was small with old fixtures. The carpet felt damp. Overall we cannot give this hotel a good rating. We expected... more

I've stayed in most of the downtown hotels and this was the biggest disappointment to date. In need of upgrades is an understatement - our bathroom counter was old, peeling, chipped. Water ran off of the window constantly and the air conditioning/heating system was from the dinosaur era. It would be okay in a pinch, but not worth a penny... more
