My wife and I stayed at the Loyalist Inn along with her cousin and his wife in early September 2014 while doing genealogical research in the area. We will return. The Loyalist is obviously undergoing a slow renovation of some sort and could use a coat of paint on the exterior. But our rooms were comfortable and very clean. Our... More

Arrived 8/14/14 to find the pub was closed, also the restaurant was closed,( apparently permanently) and all the furnishings were for sale. Desk person told us she was leaving at 8 p.m. and we were on our own. Air conditioner barely worked---even though by the sound of it there should have been ice everywhere--but they had kindly provided a floor... More

The walk in and viewing of the rooms/restaurant was enough for me to decide "Nope not staying here"! The restaurant was closed with all the furniture piled to one side on top of each other. It was dark & dingy in the lobby. When I asked to see a room and the price I was told it would be $109.... More

Very old building with creaking floors. The room was clean and quiet. The bed was an extreme pillow top. But, had a good nights sleep. If you expect a shower, it is next to impossible to fit into the half sized phone booth steel!! container. Very strange. The bath room seems to be a renovated closet. Would not want to... More

No pub. No restaurant. No Nova Scotia atmosphere and charm. Both closed. Not even someone at the front desk. Room stinks from chemicals used to finish new floors. Could not reach anyone to change rooms. Bathroom is the size of a closet. Stay away.

This place is horrible. Dirty...paint peeling...resturant closed. Do not stay here under any circumstances. Still disputing a bill with them also. They leave a note on the door... Wierd place. Will not book through Booking.com again. They need to screen their places better. Kathy B. June 24, 2014

We booked this room via booking.com, which we will not use again. We tried to contact the Inn directly several times to end up leaving messages on voice mail. We left 2 msgs and then found the mailbox to be full. We arrived at 11PM to find a note on the door specifying a number to call. Being from the... More

Stayed at the Loyalist for 4 during for the Shelburne lobster festival. Lots of character to this place, rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. Central to everything in Shelburne. Owner Gary was welcoming and provided good company in the restaurant/bar. Food was delicious! Better than expected.

Now first, do not get put off by the external appearance - yes it looks closed or even shut down, certainly needs some work here to attract custom. We had booked online and we're not expecting what we saw - peak in through the window and you will see old furniture piled up in one room that used to be... More

We were treated to a terrific meal. Service is informal, easy going and attentive. If you want to have fine dining food in an informal setting with friendly open service, this is the place to go in Shelburne. Gary is a great host. This discerning barkeep has the best craft beer in Nova Scotia, Hell's Bay (from nearby Liverpool) on... More
